Noticed Problems[edit]

I attempted an edit, and it was quickly undone. Rather than attempt it again, I'm going to assume I don't know enough about the way things are done to do it myself, and instead point out the problems informally so that someone more experienced can look into them: 1) What seems to be a 2D game played on a single 4x4 board is sorted under the "higher dimensions" section. 2) In the "Misere Tic-tac-toe" listing, it says that "A 3×3 game is a draw," without providing more detail. This is nonspecific - the literal implication is that every single 3x3 game will end in a draw. Given the option of self-sacrifice, this is ridiculous. Furthermore, I played a few games, and it's possible for either player to win via a fork. 3) Quick Tic-tac-toe only has one reference - a book without any online edition, meaning a physical copy would be needed to verify it. In addition, the book seems to be a puzzle book. Thus, given that A) I can find no reference to the game online, B) The variant is subjectively terrible, and C) The variant is also rather puzzle-like in nature, I think that Quick Tic-tac-toe is not a variant, but a puzzle mechanic used only in that book. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DoctorBlue42 (talkcontribs) 19:42, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request for Tic-tac-toe variants article made on 30 October 2022[edit]

I request to add to the "Other variants" section the game "TickoaTTwo" published by content creator Oats Jenkins on the YouTube video "I Made BETTER Tic-Tac-Toe" on the 28th of October of 2022. The game uses the usual 3x3 grid, but can also use a special grid, made of 2 circles in a confined square.

Reproduction of the alternative grid for the game TickoaTTwo

The game uses two players, the first one plays with a vertical line, and the other with a horizontal one. (Note: The assignment of "first" and "second" is arbitrary.) The first player draws their line inside one of the 9 spots in the board, and so does the second player right after them. A player is allowed to draw their line on top of the other player's lines, except right after it is placed, forming a "T" or "+" like shape, or a "plus" as it will be referred to in this request. The game will continue until three "plusses" are aligned in the board, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally, like in the original game, where the responsible for the last plus is the one to win. TickoaTTwo was design as the next form of Tic-Tac-Toes, correcting a few of the problems with the original game, such as the likelihood of the game to end in a draw, solved by the new "plus" mechanic, forcing the game to have at least one winner, while keeping the game simple and easy to play. Not done, as this isn't a notable variant. It is two days old and published on YouTube. --Mvqr (talk) 16:54, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Mvqr I'd like to see that variant here and it's over a month old now. Jakub Moc (talk) 16:31, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Its age is irrelevant. What is relevant is that there is no substantial coverage of this variant in reliable sources independent of its creator. —David Eppstein (talk) 18:05, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
now it have its own site as well

HE ASKED US WE MUST! YOU ARE RUINING MY ADHD INSANE GOALS OF GETTING THIS COPYRIGHTED AND OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED! I WAS GONNA ADD IT MYSELF, BUT NO ITS PROTECTED BOOOO 2601:405:8401:44D0:C09D:5C98:7284:6CA7 (talk) 04:11, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, im sorry for screaming and possibly swearing through the computer screen, but id like to point out this is better than the original. Theres none of the STUPID, ANNOYING draws, and the INSANE advantage that player 1 has is nonexistent. 2601:405:8401:44D0:C09D:5C98:7284:6CA7 (talk) 04:14, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable Sources[edit]

I was wondering why Peanut Butter Tic Tac Toe reported from NBA.com is not a reliable sources? This site has been cited several times (see eg. [Kobe Bryant]. It is NBA official website at the same time disseminate news about anything related to NBA. When you have an official site disseminating news, the writer is a journalist and they have editors. At the same time, context matters (refer to [WP:CONTEXTMATTER]).

I can understand that an academic journal is one of the best reliable sources. But this is a public encyclopedia with a coloquial name as one of the entry which IMHO, should cover different aspect of knowledge. Any news related to this need to be judged based on the context. Anyway, I'm adding more popular news site to support the claim. I'm inviting you to discuss about this. @David Eppstein and @Wizardman to be nominated as the moderator for this discussion. Add and link Ultimate tic-tac-toe to "Variants with Bigger Boards" or "Other Variants"

E.g. add: In Ultimate tic-tac-toe, the board is composed of a large tic-tac-toe board where each cell contains another standard tic-tac-toe board. A move in the smaller boards determines the location of the next move in the larger board. Lugilu (talk) 03:26, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done I also added a citation, found on its WP page Pinchme123 (talk) 02:47, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
