Auction Price

[edit]

Perhaps Tiger's selling price was the most ever paid for an electric guitar, but it is certainly not a record for musical instruments. According to this NYT article, the "Red Mendelssohn" Strad sold for $1.7 million in 1990. http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F3061EF83B5B0C718EDDA80994D8494D81&showabstract=1 In any event, the claim in this wiki article doesn't cite a reference anyway.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.81.241.12 (talkcontribs) 06:34, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See [1]. From what I can tell, it was the highest price paid for a guitar up until about 2004, when Clapton's "Blackie" sold for $959,500. According to that article, Blackie's selling price was broken in 2006 by a guitar sold to benefit the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. That guitar (which doesn't appear to belong to anyone but was signed by celebrities) sold for $2.6 million. —Viriditas | Talk 08:20, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
