Викидим, The term Tirhut is alternative name of the Mithila region in the Indian subcontinent is absolutely correct but the term Tirhut has its own meaning and histories. The separate article for Tirhut was to attempt the explanation its meaning and the history of the term Tirhut. The term Tirhut has its own long history so in my opinion there should be a separate article on Tirhut. It should not be merged in the article Mithila region. Merging the article Tirhut in the article Mithila region limits the further encyclopedic expansion of the term Tirhut. I think Wikipedia is a platform which gives detailed description of any legitimate terms. Let's talk with good faith. Sntshkumar750 (talk) 04:32, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear colleague:
  1. I have moved a lot of etymology text into History of the Mithila region. If more information is needed, it can be added there while discussing the multiple names of Mithila.
  2. While there is no prohibition in Wikipedia to write articles about words, there is WP:NOTDICTIONARY rule that advises against creating dictionary entries here. So, the word descriptions, etymology, and use (typical content of dictionaries) do not warrant a dedicated article.
  3. That said, do you know a WP:RS that contains a large amount of information about the word Tirhut? For example, an article in a peer-researched linguistic journal dedicated to this word, would definitely suffice. I performed my own search, and did not find such a source. It is quite possible that I have overlooked one (or more). Can you point me to these sources?
