Toad Image

It would be nice to have the first picture be a pic of Toad the character, not a generic Toad. He is one of the most important Toads. --67.40.166.202 02:20, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Stop Changing The Headings

Stop changing the headings on the sections froms capital to lowercase. Got it! You are ruining the whole page.

First, one of the edit descriptions informed you, and I quote, that Wikipedia guidelines state that headings are not to use unnecessary capital letters. Second, you're not doing any better with your editing of Toad's playable roles. He's not playable in Mario Golf or DDR Mario Mix. And this article isn't a stub, either, so stop that. Agent CH 02:18, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Playable and non playable appearances

Toad is not playable in DDR Mario Mix or the N64 Mario Golf, as I already stated. He's in them, but you can't play as him. And Toadette is in DDR Mario Mix. She's not playable either, but she's in there. And what constitutes a cameo appearance, anyway? Toad's role in Luigi's Mansion may be minor, but I don't think it was small enough to be a cameo. He appeared in multiple places and saved your game. Kirby Super Star, now that's definitely a cameo. Agent CH 01:52, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

I Will Stop

First of all, Toad is playable in Mario Golf and Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix, go to page and check for yourself. Also, please stop ruining the titles. That is all I ask.

No, he isn't. Toad only appears to wave the OB flag when you hit the ball out of bounds in Mario Golf. He's not playable. And in DDR, you only play as Mario and Luigi. Never Toad. Not even in the mini-games. He just assists whichever character you choose in Story Mode. And while I'm at it, Toadette is in DDR. You don't play as her, but she's still there in the first level of the second world. Did you even play the games?
And the titles shouldn't have unnecessary caps. See Wikipedia:Naming Conventions Agent CH 19:10, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Toadette and Toadsworth section

Is it me, or is all the text and the two images unneeded, since Toadette and Toadsworth already have their own pages? Kidicarus222 05:27, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

First Paragraph...

The first appearance of Toad, as Toad, isn't mentioned. For posterity's sake, it probabnly should be. Toad was first referred to as Toad (rather than a mushroom retainer) in the original Super Mario Bros 2, but the first paragraph states that in every game prior to Paper Mario, he's been referred to as a mushroom retainer. I do note that it specifies in the manual; however this is still incorrect, the SMB2 Manual refers to him as Toad as well. Gene S. Poole 02:21, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Playable Appearances

Does it not seem odd that Toad's first major appearance, SMB2, is mentioned in passing in this paragraph, with the focus being on Wario's Woods? I mean, yes, Toad is the primary character in Wario's Woods, granted...but the game itself is hardly noteworthy. It certainly didn't have much popularity until some time after its release. And SMB2 is...well...it's the quintessential Toad. It's where the character was defined. Very odd...very very odd. Gene S. Poole 02:27, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

a small trivia addition?

is it worthy to note that in the NES super mario bros that toad AKA mushroom retainer is actually flipping us the bird? you can see it on the image in this article as well as in the actual game 208.38.36.49 18:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC) ME

I don't see that. there isn't enough detail to indicate that, at all. I don't see even a single pixel raised beyond the border of the hand. Gene S. Poole 00:35, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

I think what you are seeing is the mushroom cap edges, which appear to touch his hands in such a way that if you are looking for it, it might look like he's doing that. I don't think that he is really doing it though. --LuigiManiac 01:10, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

on another note, toad may be a boo in reality, in super mario rpg. Mario has a dream that toad is in fact a boo, he leaves after giving mario something, and when mario wakes up he finds an item. or something of that consequence. Lrr. March 3, 2007

There has to be a better Toad Picture.

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j67/NY_Assassin/Pictures/ToadMP8.png

I found this which is much better than the blurry picture on the article.

Angry Sun 17:14, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

It is a good image, but Wikipedia has a policy about copyright, so I do not think it can be used.--Henke37 20:56, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I've replaced the blurry image with a much better-quality one, with a source. ^_^ Hardcore gamer 48 11:56, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes you did but it was from a game in 2006. Oh well Mario Party 8 isn't a mainstream game...

... So? It's still Toad's current appearance, is it not? Hardcore gamer 48 04:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Why did you delete the mushroom caps? Paper Mario is canon. Angry Sun 13:37, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

No offense (if you were the one who put it in), but to me it sounded like a bunch of nonsense. Not to mention that that stuff really only occurs within the Paper Mario series (and whoever wrote it said that it happened between lots of games, ESPECIALLY Paper Mario, which isn't actually part of the mainstream series). If the majority of people want it back in, I won't touch it again. ; ) Hardcore gamer 48 04:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

It is mainstream. Just say that It only happens in Paper Mario games. Angry Sun 04:21, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

There's nothing stopping you from putting it back yourself, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it is listcruft. I'm one of those people who consider the Paper Mario franchise (Super Paper Mario included) as a non-canon franchise to the series (if there even IS a proper canon...). It's place in the series is debatable. Hardcore gamer 48 05:50, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Accents

Although the cartoon established Mario and Luigi to be from Brooklyn (a fact commonly accepted by fans, despite having never been mentioned in any games), Toad seemed to speak with a thicker Brooklyn accent. The accents weren't mentioned in the games, but the TV show was (presumably) a licensed product. Until Nintendo decided to go with an Italian accent, fans assumed the TV show (and later the movie) accent was the official standing. Only when Nintendo's products included digitized recorded speech did anyone realize Nintendo intended them to be Italian, not Italian-American. It's the same principle of updated canon that Star Trek and Star Wars licensed products run on. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.213.139.190 (talk) 08:52, 15 May 2007 (UTC).

Yeah nothing in the cartoon series should be taken as true (Other then Mario's love of eating)

The crap it's accepted.

60% of the world knows that Mario is from the Mushroom Kingdom. Went through a pipe to Big Ape City. Play DKL. This proves it.

Idiots who believe that cartoon that was only sponsered by Nintendo have no place in Mario Games. The Cartoon was by DIC! Angry Sun 19:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Removed information

First off, half of this article is OR. Stuff like "they may" or "he probably" has no place on this site. The same goes for random observations (like accents in the above conversation). The rest of the information is just repeated fluff. We don't need to know every random, over described detail of every game appearance that Toads have. We don't need a list of every color. We need concise and detailed information. The removed information doesn't provide that. TTN 18:52, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Obviously it was meant to be there TTN. Angry Sun 18:55, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

...What? If I add a paragraph on how the Toads have kinky orgies, does that mean it is "meant to be there?" TTN 19:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
No but The Mushroom Caps are an important peice of info. Every Encyclopedia has some doubts. So words like "Probably" can stay there. Angry Sun 19:03, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
The mushroom caps are complete OR. For one, what says that they are actual caps? The only thing that suggests that is one of the cartoons, which doesn't set canon. Then there is nothing that can source the "color = personality" notion. Even if that is true, we don't need a list. Prose describing them in general is what you want. Words like probably" shouldn't be used in-text; OR is to be completely avoided, so we cannot have doubts. The information is either sourced or trashed. TTN 19:09, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
He is right. The only time I have ever seen Toad's "hat" come off is in the Super Mario Brothers 3 cartoon, and that was just a fun show, not an actual history of the Mario world. My father thinks that his "hat" is actually part of his head. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TurtleShroom (talkcontribs) 20:18:01, August 19, 2007 (UTC).

Paper Mario. Paper Mario 2. Possibly Super Paper Mario.

Each one of those games is canon. 3 against 1. Angry Sun 19:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Do the toads actually say "This is really a cap!" and "The color of my cap shows my personality!"? If they do, cite the quotes. If not, it's complete OR. TTN 19:21, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

What? No link TTN? I can' source quotes if they haven't put on the internet TTN you know that just as well as me. Angry Sun 19:25, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

That isn't my problem. If you're so certain, you should already have quotes. If you have no source, you have no backing for your claims. If you have no backing, it's not going up. TTN 19:35, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I will get the quotes when I get my NEW N64. Angry Sun 19:45, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

TTN, this all regards you. I put that section in and YOU JUST HAD TO REMOVE IT!!!!!! Now I HAVE TO GET THE SAME THREE PICTURES I HAD FOR THAT SECTION SINCE ORPHANBOT DELETED IT. This is all your fault. >_< Tyty1234 01:46, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Tyty1234
There is nothing wrong with describing the species, but it needs to be done encyclopedically. None of the current content is needed. It has already been explained in the opening, and the rest is original research. Readd the section when you obtain sourced and relevant info. TTN 01:48, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Can I at least describe what types of Mushroom caps each toad has on their head in the Appearances section?!?! Tyty1234 02:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
No. That information is OR and cruft. TTN 02:17, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
What do you mean!?!? Tyty1234 03:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

No merged Toad

TTN wants to merged Toad into List of Mario Series characters, but I don't want to merged it because it's a main article of Toad. 70.16.142.227 21:50, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Where is the discussion of this? There is a remark that it is going to be merged, but I can't find the discussion. This definitely should not happen. Toad is one of the main characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, as well as one of the original protagonists. Let's let him have his own page-- there is a lot more to say about him than say, Waluigi or Daisy. --Golittlerecordgo (talk) 03:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, only some dumb people would want to merge. I mean OMG, we NEEEEEED thsi here!!!!Peter Napkin Dance Party (talk) 18:33, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
I noticed that this article had a notability tag and after less than half an hour of searching I found the character mentioned in twwnty-two reliable resources, a partial list follows:

Each of these site are recognized as reliable, third party soruces by WP:Video Games. I will do my best to help integrate as many of these references as possible into the article. In the meantime, since there is not an active discussion regarding whether or not the article should be merged, and since reliable third party coverage has been shown I'm going to be bold and remove the merge tage from the article. If someone feels so inclined to re-tag the article, please discuss it first at the project talk page.

Minor ambiguity

This sentence: Toad is a playable racer in every Mario kart and Mario Party DS. is very misleading. I would suggest: Toad is a playable racer in every Mario Kart, and is also playable in Mario Party DS. He's not a racer in Mario Party DS. Perhaps the reference to Mario Party DS could be moved up to be with the rest of the Mario Party mentions?

Also, I don't think his gender is in question. He wears an open waistcoat which clearly shows his bare, flat chest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.41.156.156 (talk) 23:58, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Citation for Toad trophy in Brawl

I noticed that there is a citation-needed tag next to the assertion that Toad appears as a trophy in Brawl. There is a list of all Brawl trophies at the official Smash Bros Dojo site at http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/various36_list.html. Unfortunately I don't have enough experience at editing Wikipedia to add a citation. If somebody else would like to do so, that'd be great... 69.41.123.128 (talk) 17:07, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Sex?

Male? Female? Or Asexual? I think this needs to be mentioned. (Like mario is obviously male, but this character is more ambiguous)IAmTheCoinMan (talk) 12:41, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

There's a character called Toadette, I believe is his girlfriend, so unless he's... special... he's male. 71.71.206.139 (talk) 04:22, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
