the added section on jim monaghan

the section on tom's brother jim is completely accurate and gives some background into his family and some interesting info on how some of tom's ideas are not that far removed from jim's, though at least tom's are rational. the added section is really totally factual and is not meant to be slander just a brief bio on his fam. i see tom at domino's every day, he's a good guy and i respect him. i also see jim a lot and he seems like a pretty good guy too.

i just thought some of his ideas were interesting /amusing since they come from the co-founder of dominos. it's funny, for being such a huge organization and so widespread, dominos didn't figure into any of his conspiracies. i talked to jim for many hours and i'm not trying to disrespect him. it's true though about his ideas

I'm removing the section on Jim Monahan -- so far as I'm aware, he does not meet Wikipedia's guidelines for notability. If the section is based on your interview, it also constitutes original research, which is prohibited on Wikipedia, and fails Wikipedia's policy on verifiability.--Sfmammamia (talk) 22:29, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Mere Christianity

I was sort of thrown by the bit about reading Mere Christianity in 1989--it suggests that that was the cause of his religious awakening, but the article goes on to note that he had been involved in conservative Catholic projects for years before that.

Seems like their ought to be some mention of his alleged support for the Contras--see the last external link. Nareek 06:20, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Putting the following: " Monaghan is a conservative Republican Catholic with a particular interest in advocating for the right to life of the unborn and for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion via privacy concerns." under "Philanthropy" is definitely a subjective and biased comment. I contest the neutrality and quality of this article

correction?

I don't know if this will be read by anyone that can correct but I clicked on the reference to the car in this article and it states Tom bought the car for 5.7 million pounds but sold it for $8 million. This article says he bought the car for $8 million.

fixed, based on published source that said he bought the car for 8.1 million, sold it for $8 million.Sfmammamia

could someone please clean up the biased wording? this article could stand to be rewritten; it sounds like it was written by a student in high school, and there is lots of repetition. it is hardly scholarly.

definitely need re-writing

Honest to god, it sounds like one of the Pioneers for Christ kids wrote it as an essay for a "Why Tom Monaghan is my hero" contest. I'm surprised more pissed off Ann Arborites haven't made it to this page.

I am surprised that not one has included Tom Monaghan's "generous" funding of the Contras! We can't pick and chose which events we want to focus on!

We have to "pick and choose" -- anything that meets Wikipedia's standards for verifiability Especially for biographies of living persons. If you can cite a reliable source for your assertion, by all means, add it. -- Sfmammamia 16:02, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

seems biased

Can someone edit this biography from a more objective point of view? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.204.229.101 (talk) 19:05, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I just heard of him for the first time today, and read the article as a first source on him (12/12/08). In its current incarnation it doesn't come across to me as laudatory, just factual. It does seem to focus pretty heavily on his pro-life efforts, but I'm in no position to judge whether their prominence in the article is proportional to their prominence of his efforts; others may wish to consider it. That's the only thing that struck me as a first-time reader. ~~Davepl —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.123.191 (talk) 22:50, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup to Do

  • Sources need to be normalized to follow proper citation guidelines.
  • Any items that are dubious or reflect on his personal views need proper sourcing.
  • Tonal issues need to be resolved. Article comes off as pretty lauditory. --Lendorien (talk) 15:18, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Diambiguation?

There are a few other CEOs with similar names out there:

Thomas S Monahan is the CEO of CIBC; Thomas L Monahan III is the CEO of the Corporate Exectutive Board Company in Arglington, VA, and Tom Monaghan is the Dominoes Pizza founder and Catholic philanthropist —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr.queso (talkcontribs) 06:42, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Banjo playing

"However after reading a passage by C. S. Lewis on pride (from Mere Christianity[2]), Monaghan divested himself of most of his more ostentatious possessions, including the Detroit Tigers in 1992. Also, he played banjo frequently." There has to be some way to include this fact (Monaghan's banjo playing) without inducing conversational whiplash. Any ideas? Me, I'd just as soon take it out entirely, as it doesn't seem to add to the article. However, I'm willing to solicit others' thoughts on this. -- JeffBillman (talk) 14:52, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Nothing on his retirement ?

Why isn't there a section regarding his retirement into domino's pizza holding ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.100.223.137 (talk) 22:02, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
