I've edited the opening section of the article, and left out any claim about this being a very early animal. If the Ediacarn biota (or at least part of it) are animals, then Trochophycus pedum cannot be called 'earliest'. Similarly, Vernanimalcula is described as a complex (bilateral) animal occurring before Trochophycus appears. I also dropped the first source, as it was a course outline, and thus does not qualify as a reliable source, and moreover did not support the statements in the first sentences. -- Donald Albury 00:04, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
