The French museum ship is using USST 488; however that is inaccurate as far as the historic nomenclature. That is seen in the photo of ST-891: All the small numbered vessels, tugs, coastal freighters (FP/FS), Y tankers and such had a similar format of U.S. ARMY DESIGNATION-NUMBER. The restored, museum ship in France has not restored that level of accuracy, perhaps intentionally as "U.S. Army" in such usage implies official national status and possible issues with official policies.
