Arlovski/O'Brien

[edit]

It is now January 20, 2008, 11:30a.m. Mountain Time. As of right this minute, there is no fight between Andrei Arlovski and Jake O'Brien. I saw UFC 80 last night. I heard Dana White at the press conference. I have read every article posted on MMA Junkie, MMA Weekly, Sherdog, Yahoo! Sports, MMA Fightline, MMA Mania, 411 Mania, Ivan's Blog, and Five Ounces of Pain. They all say the same thing: the UFC wants Arlovski to fight at UFC 82, they'd like for him to fight Jake O'Brien. The fight has not been signed. Nobody, including Andrei, Dana, Frank, Lorenzo, Andrei's managers, Jake O'Brien, Jake's managers, their agents, or anyone else has confirmed that this fight is actually happening.

We've been through this repeatedly on multiple event pages. It was discussed thoroughly on WT:MMA. The consensus is, and always has been, that fights do not get posted until they are confirmed as actually happening by the fighters or the promotion. Not rumored, not speculated, not expected, not thought about; confirmed. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball; it's also not a rumor blog. Unless you have an actual source that says the fight is signed, sealed, delivered, in the bag, and definitely happening (short of one fighter becoming injured between now and then), please do not put the fight up again. If you believe this is wrong, please discuss it here before adding the fights.

Or any other speculated fights, for that matter.

what about ufc 83?--Vik.sanchez (talk) 14:23, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

At this time, there's no verifiable information about the event, so we can't make an article about it. Once the UFC makes some announcement about the event (primarily when/where, since that's been completely in flux the last couple of weeks, we can put something up.
