Collision while submerged

I know the CNN article says Newport News was surfacing but the Navy.mil article states: "The collision between USS Newport News (SSN 750) and the Japanese-flagged motor vessel Mogamigawa occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. (local time) in the Strait of Hormuz while the submarine was transiting submerged. --131.122.63.45 18:16, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let's leave in context of re-assignment of CSG to Indian Ocean

End of service life?

Is this submarine going to be scrapped or used as a partially torn-down training facility on the ground? Running into a 300,000 ton giant ship must bring very bad damages to a 1/50th size submarine, guess? 82.131.210.162 11:16, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
