Pictures
If someone's still living on campus, a shot of the library, old library, and UC would make a more representative photo than the photo of the gazebo. Ditto a shot from the road showing the OC, the flags, and the other nearby buildings. MrZaiustalk 18:02, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. I'll try to get a couple pictures while I'm on campus sometime today. --pIrish 14:48, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I plan on taking some more pictures sometime in the spring. The only reason I put that picture on there is because there were zero, nada, nothing. So there. :-P -Ryan 13 January 2007
Nicknames
They need to put something in about the nickname of USI which is "Westside High."
It got this nickname because of all the westside of evansville commuters that go there from the local highschools and it makes it feel more like highschool than a college. At least if your from Evansville. —This unsigned comment was added by 63.167.255.231 (talk • contribs)
- Got anything to back it up? Because I sure can't find anything that would work as a proper citation (actually, I can't find anything at all). It's also good to avoid nicknames unless it's really, really notable (a LOT of people call it that, not just a select few). A lot of people have heard it called West Side High before, but very, very few people actually call it that. Which kind of goes against the idea of a nickname. A nickname is what people call it, not what people consider it or what they think of it.
- And, last time I checked, the reason it's called that is not because of commuters from local high schools. The reason it's called that is because people typically have this lower standard for the school, they don't consider it a real university because of how cheap it is and the quality of education students get from it. Also, classes feel more like high school classes and everybody calls their professors teachers, instead of professors. It's got the aura of a high school, not a college, thus the name. --pIrish 20:35, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
WP:NPOV issues:
The following sentences/phrases/claims in this article appear to be opinion of an individual writer and may be in violation of the WP:NPOV policy (as of 10:52, 12 December 2006 (UTC)):
- "Classes were originally held in a dilapidated former elementary school"
- "The conditions were very poor"
- "It became clear that if the University was to thrive, it would need to gain independent status"
- "The relationship with Indiana State University was an awkward one from the start, given the very different goals and needs of ISUE"
- "USI's growth has continued at an astonishing rate"
- "USI began to shift from a commuter campus to a residential campus"
- "are housed in extraordinarily modern suite-style facilites"
- "providing a level of comfort unheard of at other schools in the state"
- "Southern Indiana Athletic Department is a competitive member"
- Davodd 10:52, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- The citation request near the "relatively inexpensive" comment in the first paragraph is still in need of a relevant citation, and would be better served by accurately sourced numbers that can be introduced to the article itself. Listing the only the tuition costs of USI does not demonstrate that it is inexpensive when compared with other schools. MrZaiustalk 04:54, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- i've gone ahead and removed a number of the more opinionated statements. most seem to have been in the 'independence' section of the school's history. will try to either source or remove some of the other debatable entries. Randella 00:04, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Usi.gif
Image:Usi.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
