3 numbers and 2 digits

[edit]

This doesn't make any sense. Should it be 3 letters and 2 digits? Conor Ó Brádaigh 01:24, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inspection?

[edit]

"The last digit shows in which month the car has to undergo vehicle inspection". So what's for Nov and Dec? 11 and 12? And if so, given that from now on "3 letters and 2 digits are...used", this doesn't make any sense? Ori (talk) 17:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

clarrified --Lotsofmagnets (talk) 17:10, 24 January 2010 (UTC) Actually this is the case, no vehicles are requested for inspection in November and December. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.197.253.129 (talk) 00:40, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pre 2004 plates

[edit]

"Older plates issued before April 2004 are required to have a national emblem sticker." i beleive tis is far from a requirement as there are not many pre 2004 cars that have the euro-plate style of sticker. many are just blank and many others have locality stickers. others still have stickers of the owners choosing (i´ve seen a nike sticker there) so i think unless that phrase can be referenced i´m going to remove or modify it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lotsofmagnets (talkcontribs) 17:12, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

By law vehicles with plates issued before 2004 are suppose to have national IS sticker so they look like the new plates, locality and other type of stickers are forbidden and are suppose to be replaced by IS sticker by inspection stations. The case is that inspection stations don't follow that rule. References are bellow. http://www.reglugerd.is/interpro/dkm/WebGuard.nsf/lookByNumer/7512003?OpenDocument

28. gr. "Á upplyftan flöt framan við bókstafi á almennu skráningarmerki af gerð A, B og D, sem ætlaður er fyrir skjaldarmerki, skal setja límmiða sem þjóðarmerki er prentað á. Límmiðinn skal vera 66 mm á hæð og 37 mm á breidd. Íslenski fáninn, 24 x 33 mm, skal vera á efri hluta þjóðarmerkisins en stafirnir IS á neðri hlutanum. Hæð stafanna skal vera 21 mm. seems to be a rather uninforced law but as you´ve pointed out, it´s still a law thus the comment stays :) --Lotsofmagnets (talk) 06:16, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Endurskoðun plates

[edit]

I encountered a couple of license plates that bear a two-colour validation sticker with a one-digit number (e.g. 7 or 8) and Endurskoðun written on them:

This article doesn't tell anything about these. What does such sticker mean? --Upwinxp (talk) 16:48, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This sticker means that the vehicle has not passed an annual inspection and needs to be returned after repair. The number indicates which month the car needs to be re inspected. Einar414 (talk) 18:59, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your answer Einar414! Let's add this information to the article. —Upwinxp (talk) 15:40, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Add in the new numberplates introduced by the new traffic laws in 2019

[edit]

With the introduction of the new traffic laws in 2019, 2 new numberplates were introduced; an orange one with white text for Class I mopeds (0-25km/h), and a blue one with white text for Class II mopeds (0-45km/h).
