Etymology
[edit]A local urban legend is that "Powhite" is a contraction or slur of the words "poor white" as in "lower-income Caucasian." However, the roadway was acually named for the Powhite Creek which it adjoins in many places. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vaoverland (talk • contribs) 23:33, 30 April 2006
