Proposal to move page
[edit]This list is more than "filmography", as it includes stage performances. In fact, Vivien Leigh did more stage work than film. I propose moving the page to:
Vivien Leigh on stage and screen
If for no other reason, to be consistent with Laurence Olivier on stage and screen, the actor she's most identified with.
Thoughts? — Maile (talk) 23:14, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
Relilable sourcing available for actor biographies
[edit]"The American Film Institute was founded by a 1965 presidential mandate announced in the Rose Garden of the White House by Lyndon B. Johnson—to establish a national arts organization to preserve the legacy of American film heritage, educate the next generation of filmmakers, and honor the artists and their work. Two years later, in 1967, AFI was established, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Motion Picture Association of America and the Ford Foundation."
"Operated by the Research Department of The Broadway League, a trade association for the North American commercial theatre community." IBDB "is an online database of Broadway theatre productions and their personnel, including lengths of runs, lists of casts and creators, awards and nominations, and past box office grosses. Its research department maintains historical data on individual playhouses and productions. In addition, many reference documents, including weekly box office grosses and season-by-season statistics, are available to the public, journalists, and scholars via the website."

- ... that British actress Vivien Leigh (pictured) won both her Academy awards for Best Actress for portraying women of the American South? Source: Rather than linking the sources, here's the easiest way to find this: (Paragraph 1) Vivien Leigh was British; (Paragraph 3) She won both awards for portraying Southern women.

5x expanded by Maile66 (talk). Self-nominated at 00:42, 11 November 2020 (UTC).
- 5× expansion of 17 June 2020 version completed from 284 characters to 1,934 and nominated one day later. No copyvios detected and duplication detector check of main online sources[1][2][3] reveal no close paraphrasing issues (AGF some of the PDF refs which can't go through Dup detector). Article is well-sourced. Hook is 128 characters long (under 200 character max.) and is interesting. Refs 1 and 6 (verifying the hook) are reliable sources (ref 6 appears to be a dead link, but isn't. I just have to search the Academy Awards Database myself, which does not generate a usable URL). QPQ done. Image is free and in public domain. Looks good to go! —Bloom6132 (talk) 07:13, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- Bloom6132 Thanks for noticing that about the source. The Walk of Fame source states it even more clearly and is a stable link, so I have added that in the appropriate places. — Maile (talk) 13:25, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
Vivien Leigh on stage and screen
[edit]I see you've re-done the Vivien Leigh performances page as Vivien Leigh on stage and screen, whilst that's all well and good, you've actually reduced the amount of information available which seems a perverse step in a major revision- the opening night dates of the theatre productions are now missing: Just listing the year is not enough. Its important i think to have these dates- particularly in relation to the overseas tours and the different productions performed. If you are not intending to add this information in a further revision, I can add it myself, as i think its valuable. In addition, I don't think the introduction really sets the scene adequately for her stage career. For example no mention is made of the fact that for many of her notable stage roles she appeared in the UK premiers of the plays in question, meaning she created a number of important characters on the British stage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greenslade32 (talk • contribs) 11:00, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
- WP:NOT Lists on Wikipedia are not designed to contain every bit of information on a line item in the list. Vivien Leigh's list of performances was a completely unsourced collection of information, and as such was a prime candidate for deletion. It was reworked in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines on Featured Lists. Such as Lauren Bacall on screen and stage or Audrey Hepburn on screen and stage. Readers can click on the individual links to find the details of each. Lists are not supposed to contain every bit of information available on a given item. You are welcome to discuss list styles at WP:FL. Or discuss your issues on the talk page of the list itself. — Maile (talk) 11:25, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
- Greenslade32 Reopening this thread originally on my talk page, if you care to contribute. The article version before I upgraded the article can be found Here. This one contains the details before I began updating it. The problem with all those details you feel are necessary, is that the only source is a single source found at the bottom of the original article - the Anne Edwards book. It's been years since I read that book, and I don't have access to it. Wikipedia is really picky about sourcing. However, the rest of the information is sourced in the Refs column. If you would like to take on the work necessary to add the missing columns back with that sourcing, I won't object. Maybe as long as you leave this talk thread here, no one else will object, either. Good luck. — Maile (talk) 19:45, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
