Outdated Information for W. R. Grace & Co.

Hello Wikipedia,

I am someone with a Conflict of Interest (COI) and I am starting a new section in Talk to hopefully simplify my request that Wikipedia correct important facts about W. R. Grace & Co.

Extended content

Each of the following short edits are supported by filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (sec.gov) linked to below. I tried to follow your request edit template (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Request_edit)

Please consider five edits relating to matters of fact: 1) Description of the company 2) New CEO, 3) Proper legal name, 4) Current logo, and 5) Current business segments

Edit 1 (In the first line of description)

Information to be added or removed: In the first line of description, change “W. R. Grace and Company is an American chemical conglomerate...” with: “W. R. Grace & Co. is an global specialty chemicals company...”

Explanation: In the first decade of this century, Grace sold off holdings in all non-chemical business segments and vastly reduced its portfolio of businesses to focus on specialty chemicals.

Edit 2 (In the call-out box on the right)

Information to be added or removed: Replace “Alfred Festa, Chairman & CEO” with “Hudson La Force, President and Chief Executive Officer”

Explanation: Festa retired and was succeeded by Hudson La Force on November 8, 2018.

References supporting change: sec.gov 8-K filing (Nov. 8, 2018): https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1045309/000104530918000113/november20185028-k.htm

Edit 3 (All referencs)

Information to be added or removed: Replace all instances of “W. R. Grace and Company” with “W. R. Grace & Co.”

Explanation of issue: This is the proper legal name for the company.

References supporting change: sec.gov most recent 10-Q filing (Sept. 30, 2018): https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1045309/000104530918000111/a3q18form10-q.htm

Edit 4 (In the call-out box on the right)

Information to be added or removed: Replace the logo with tagline “Enriching Lives Everywhere” with the following: https://grace.com/en-us/newsroom/PublishingImages/Grace-logo-with-tag-COLOR.jpg

Explanation of issue: Grace updated the logo/tagline six years ago.

References supporting change: https://grace.com/en-us/newsroom/logo-and-images

Edit 5 (Under Subsidiaries and products)

Information to be added or removed: Replace the bullet “industrial catalysts, such as Raney nickel” with the following:

• “Refining Catalysts including FCC and hydroprocessing catalysts (marketed under ART Hydroprocessing™, Grace’s Joint Venture with Chevron); and Specialty Catalysts including polyolefin catalysts and UNIPOL PP Process Technology”

---

Replace the bullet “silica products” with the following:

• “Various silica-based products for consumer products ingredients and processing aids, and for industrial additives and processing aids; fine chemicals and pharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as custom intermediates, excipients, and chromatography media”

---

Remove “Grace Construction Products” (and sub-bullets),

Remove “Darex” (and sub-bullet)

Remove “Residential Building Materials” (and sub-bullet)

Explanation of issue: As is noted on the article page under History (last sentence) W. R. Grace & Co. is no longer in the construction products business. Our current three lines of businesses are described in the updated text above.

  Unable to review edit request
Your edit request could not be reviewed because the provided references are not formatted correctly. The citation style predominantly used by the W.R. Grace and Company article (>51%) is Citation Style 1 (CS1). The citation style used in the edit request consists of bare URL's.[a] Any requested edit of yours which may be implemented will need to resemble the current style already in use in the article – in this case, CS1. (See WP:CITEVAR.) In the extended section below titled Citation style, I have illustrated two examples: one showing how the edit request was submitted, and another showing how requests should be submitted in the future:

Citation style
Plain Reference Style Formatting:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337.3 miles, while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles. The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.

References

1. https://www.booksource.com
2. http://www.journalsource.com
3. http://www.websource.com

In the example above there are three URL's provided with the claim statements, but these URL's have not been placed using Citation Style 1, which is the style predominantly used by the W.R. Grace and Company article. Using this style, the WikiFormatted text would resemble the following:

Citation Style 1 Formatting:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337.3 miles,<ref>{{cite book|last1=Sjöblad|first1=Tristan|title=The Sun|url=http://www.booksource.com|publisher=Academic Press|date=2018|page=1}}</ref> while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles.<ref>{{cite journal|last1=Duvalier|first1=Gabrielle|title=Size of the Moon|journal=Scientific American|issue=78|volume=51|url=http://www.journalsource.com|date=2018|page=46}}</ref> The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.<ref>{{cite web|last1=Uemura|first1=Shu|title=The Sun's Heat|url=http://www.websource.com|publisher=Academic Press|date=2018|page=2}}</ref>

Displays as:

The Sun's diameter is 864,337.3 miles,[1] while the Moon's diameter is 2,159 miles.[2] The Sun's temperature is 5,778 degrees Kelvin.[3]

  3. ^ Uemura, Shū. The Sun's Heat. Academic Press, 2018, p. 2.

In the example above the references have been formatted according to Citation Style 1, which shows the author, the source's name, date, etc., all information which is lost when only the links are provided. As Wikipedia is a volunteer project, larger edit requests such yours are generally expected to have this formatting done before the request is submitted for review.

Kindly rewrite your edit request so that it aligns more with the second example shown in the collapsed section above. Also, the COI editor is reminded of the need to complete WP:COIDISCLOSE in the manner usually done on these pages, that is, to place the {{connected contributor (paid)}} template on the talk page. Feel free to re-submit that edit request at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions about this formatting please don't hesitate to ask myself or another editor. Regards,  Spintendo  03:14, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Notes

  1. ^ The use of bare URLs as references is a style which is acceptable for use in Wikipedia. However, general practice dictates that the style already in use for an article be the one that is subsequently used for all future additions unless changed by editorial consensus.[1]

References

  1. ^ "WP:CITEVAR - Wikipedia:Citing sources". Wikipedia. 20 October 2018. Retrieved 22 October 2018. It is normal practice to defer to the style used by the first major contributor or adopted by the consensus of editors already working on the page, unless a change in consensus has been achieved. If the article you are editing is already using a particular citation style, you should follow it.

___________

  1. ^ This part of the edit request proposal requires clarification because the source, which is behind a pay wall, is a review of the reference rather than the actual reference itself. Please provide the page number from the published source.
  2. ^ This portion of your request could not be implemented because only the instances of the name as it is shown within the article can be changed. Requests to change the name of the article itself must go through a separate process, thus "all instances" of the name cannot all be changed. See WP:RMCM.
  3. ^ This portion of your request could not be implemented because the file must be uploaded to Wikipedia before it can be applied at the edit request stage. See File Upload Wizard.
  4. ^ This part of the edit request proposal requires clarification because the descriptions of these products do not expalin what they are. Please provide enhanced explantions along with references from reliable secondary sources. See WP:SECONDARY.
  5. ^ This part of the edit request proposal was declined because the claims are unreferenced. See WP:V.
  6. ^ Items which are no longer current ought not be deleted outright simply because they are no longer current. The language surrounding the items ought to be updated to reflect their past nature.
