Shouldn't this article be called Weierstrass functions? The sigma function is just one of the three special cases. Robert Illes (talk) 12:11, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should be merged into Weierstrass elliptic function

[edit]

These are "helper" functions which are understood entirely in context of Weierstrass elliptic function, and don’t seem independent enough to deserve a separate article. Properly describing these functions requires a full description of the ℘-function and its derivative, and to complete an article about ℘-functions requires inclusion of extensive discussion of these auxiliary functions. Instead of trying to make 2 self-contained articles and duplicating the entire context (motivation, mathematical setup, history, literature review, ...) in both places, these functions should instead be described there. They can be given their own section(s) so that other articles on Wikipedia can, if desired, link directly to the particular definition. –jacobolus (t) 01:43, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
