conspiracy theorizing
[edit]The Warren Commission's Report that Oswald was the lone gunman has not gained widespread acceptance from the American public. A 2003 ABC News poll found that 70% of respondents "suspect a plot" committed the assassination of President Kennedy. [1] In the end, the public did not fully accept the results published by the Warren Commission secret investigations. About 70% to 90% of the American public do not accept some of the basic conclusions of the Warren Commission,[2] and this skepticism was shared by some prominent government officials including those who served on the Warren Commission itself:
Doubts about the Warren Commission's findings were not restricted to ordinary Americans. Well before 1978, President Johnson, Robert Kennedy, and four of the seven members of the Warren Commission all articulated, if sometimes off the record, some level of skepticism about the Commission's basic findings.[3]
- History isn't decided by opinion polls.
- If you want to dispute the four government investigations, go join the discussion on the JFK assassination articles. This article is not the appropriate forum for disputing this matter. Gamaliel 04:44, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Here, let's try this
- That's pretty much the same as your last edit. Gamaliel 16:33, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
No, you see, it is not. So you are saying that it is not said that Oswald shot Kennedy from there? I thought four federal investigations said that.
Very good Gamaliel. I like it, you must be one smart cookie.
NRHP claims
[edit]I removed claims in the article that this district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including this sentence: "The area bounded by Lamar, Griffin, Wood, Market, and Commerce streets is listed on the National Register of Historic Places." I believe it is not NRHP-listed. There exists an NRHP-listed district West End Historic District (Waxahachie, Texas) but that is different. There could well be a locally designated or even Texas state designated district, but the National Register's NRIS database does not show this item. So, in the absence of source (none present), I remove these claims and remove this article from NRHP categories and from WikiProject NRHP. --doncram (talk) 19:39, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, someone must have restored the claim within the article, and i see mention of "Belo to demolish West End building" in the notes, which does indeed assert that the district was NRHP-listed in November, 1978. With that hint, i manually searched a huge National Park Service document, where, on p.7600(!) indeed that is verified, but it is mentioned as "Westend Historic District", not "West End". And the NRHP's NRIS database has that item. So, i am adding an NRHP infobox and otherwise restoring/expanding coverage here. --doncram 06:07, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
Map request
[edit]A map of the historic district's boundaries is needed. Cacw (talk) 21:07, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

This article is well-organized. It could of course use expansion like any other article, but what it lacks very seriously is references. At least.. references according to cite.php. Also conversion from lists to prose where appropriate. drumguy8800 C T 09:22, 3 November 2006 (UTC) |
