Who or What the Bartle was

[edit]

According to a magazine article I read recently there is a bit of debate over who or what the Bartle effigy represents. This seems to confirm that.

Also the Doggerel presumably translates into modern english, brak=break, do we know which 'penhill' is refered to (looks like it might be Penhill- what about hunter's thorn - is that a place or is that just an arrow?

And presumably some link to Penhill Giant where there is an interesting link there to this. Which iteslf contains interesting (if tricky to cite) speculation that there ought to be a link to Ysbaddaden too.

Ah just found this which suggests "Capplebank Stee" is "Capplebank Stile", and that Hunter's thorn is a local crag with hawthorns. It also points out the other locations.EdwardLane (talk) 18:30, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
