Jetboy based on Superman?

I'm pretty sure the statement that Jetboy is based on Superman is incorrect. If I recall correctly from reading Howard Waldrop's Annotated Jetboy essay from his collection Night of the Cooters, he based Jetboy on the aviation comics (Airboy, etc.). Jetboy himself has no superpowers, IIRC. --Jim Henry 20:41, 20 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I second that. Jetboy does not resemble Superman at all. Luis Dantas 17:27, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Not inspired

Also, the Wild Cards series wasn't inspired by superhero comics at all. The authors were fans of the obscure Superworld role-playing game, and that inspired the novels. In fact, many of the original characters were the personal player-characters of the authors. MythicFox 23:25, 24 May 2005 (UTC)

Arguably, if they were sufficiently fond of superheroic antics to want to roleplay them, the odds are they were fans of comics at some point. I would argue that the series was created in reaction to superhero comics, possessing several features conspicuously absent from most superhero comics, notably permanent character death and an evolving status quo (rather than a recurring one). At very least, the writers would qualify, one and all, as fans of the superhero genre. Lokicarbis 10:01, May 25, 2005 (UTC)
Although I agree with Loki, I found MythicFox's comment interesting enough to add some of it to the main page. --Jackson 14:00, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

I made a few factual changes. The first being that Jube wasn't a joker, but an alien working with the network (a collection of alien civs). Secondly Croyd's sleep schedule isn't monthly, its quite random as well. I have to echo MythicFox's statements, Martin himself cites Superworld as being the beginning of the Wild Cards universe. I've actually been able to collect paperbacks of the entire first cycle, which was suprisingly difficult, but I think this article is good as is being short and sweet. -bro 172.139.155.130 4 July 2005 11:17 (UTC)

Adding history

I've started to add more stuff about the history of the wild cards universe and it's main characters. Suggestions are welcome. --Miguel1626 05:06, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps a list of prominent Aces, Jokers and regular characters? I'll try to compile one this weekend if no one else gets to it first. --Patrick T. Wynne 21:01, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm thinking of that. Individual pages for the books would also be nice! --Kristbg 21:54, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Done! I could use some help with the descriptions, though. --Kristbg 22:51, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
That's the other thing I was thinking of. I'll get out my books this weekend and start writing up the volumes. I'm thinking for the anthology books to list each story (plus author) with a short description and who the POV character is. For the mosaic novels, list the main characters and who wrote their parts. The two full novels would be easiest to writeup, I think.
How about I tackle Vol. 1? I've got some free time tonight. --Patrick T. Wynne 00:35, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Be my guest! :) --Kristbg 00:38, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I started the page for Volume 1. It still needs some work, but it's been a couple of years since I last read the thing, so I was a bit hazy on some of the details. I was thinking of a similar style for the other books. The mosaic novels like Vol 3 could maybe have a character table instead of a stories table.
Oh, and I used the 2003 ibooks printing for the cover image since it is the most recent. Made sense to me to do it that way. --Patrick T. Wynne 06:38, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Just finished up Aces High and Jokers Wild. They could both probably use some work, though. I think I'll reread the series again before I do any more. --Patrick T. Wynne 01:34, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
I'll try to add something to both by this weekend. --Kristbg 20:01, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Took me a while, but Aces Abroad is finally up. --Kristbg 22:55, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
And Card Sharks! I think I'm gonna need some help with volumes V, VII and VIII (the ones I don't have anymore)... Marked Cards and Black Trump will follow (I hope). --Kristbg 22:44, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Deuces Down is also up. I also made an attempt at creating an article for a character in Popinjay. Any suggestions? --Kristbg 04:32, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

GURPS book

If it would be helpful to some, I have a copy of the Wild Cards GURPS book and could add data on which books it covers.--Slavlin 22:07, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Sounds interesting! --Kristbg 22:46, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Done. I added when it came out and some details on what it contains. If there is interest, I can help fill out a section on the book, but I only have the first one.--Slavlin 22:21, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Baseball

Regarding the reference to baseball, in the Wild Cards Universe, didn't the NY Giants move to Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota? I seem to remember a reference to a young, pony-tailed, female ace wearing a "Minnesota Giants" cap. Borvek 08:23, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Borvek

New Wild Cards story

A preview of a new Wild Cards story called "Jonathon Hive Sells Out" and by Daniel Abraham is at http://www.georgerrmartin.com/wc-s.html, if anyone thinks it's worth adding to the list of links. Kevin Andrew Murphy linked to it in a post confirming that he and Laura Mixon are authors for the series. Abraham's character Jonathon Hive ("Bugsy") is an ace who can turn into a swarm of bugs; another new character, Murphy's, is named Rosa Loteria. (Information from http://www.deepgenre.com/wordpress/kevinamurphy/author-news/first-public-taste-of-new-wild-cards-stories .)

There are three new stories posted on Tor.com, that are not yet published in any of the books, and may not be in the future either. Shouldn't they be mentioned somewhere? I have also read that the anthology "Dangerous Women" contains a Wild Cards story too. Does anyone know if that is included in any of the books? I am new to these stories, have just started the first book, so these might be stupid questions. Dreadlordoftheinternet (talk) 12:59, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Stand Alone RPG?

There is no reference data and I can find no information about the stand alone RPG version of Wildcards mentioned in the paragraph before the GURPS RPG is discussed. Can someone fill in some data on that or can it safely be removed? --Suttkus (talk) 04:19, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

It's been over a month with no response, so I'm removing the reference. --Suttkus (talk) 04:31, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Apparently this article needs to be updated. There appears to be an 18th novel in the series. http://www.wildcardsonline.com/books.html Someone please confirm and edit the main article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.3.126.251 (talk) 00:00, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
