Wombles

Does this need a link to the Wombles or is that too trivial? Secretlondon 15:20, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

The Common is often depicted in fiction. The Wombles are just children's fiction and someone else has already included them on the page. However, the distinction between fact and fiction needs to be made clearer. JPF 09:05, 29 Jun 2004 (UTC)
The Wombles, fiction? How very dare you :o —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.67.83.99 (talk) 23:10, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Caesar's Camp

should be added Johnbod 16:51, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Caesar's Camp is actually on the Royal Wimbledon Golf Course and not on Wimbledon Common. Aojevans 19:56, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

People may walk through Caesar's Camp tho. There is a fenced path. SmokeyTheCat 22:23, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes, they can walk through the Camp. But it still isn't on Wimbledon Common. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.157.211.47 (talk) 23:09, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Golf

When viewed from above in satellite mode on google maps, the golf courses scar into the woodland of Wimbledon common to a ratio of almost half... makes me wonder... how and why common land was ever given over to golfers when there are so many other courses around this area. I bet someone made some money out of it at some point. I'm pretty sure that they vote Tory too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.203.96.237 (talk) 16:11, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Yeah. seems likely. There are quite enough golf courses and not enough commons. There is also a golf course interweaved with the actual common itself, probably a cheap one as golf courses go. As a boy I would steal the golfers balls and run off, ha ha. SmokeyTheCat 22:26, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Common land was NOT given over to the golf course. The golf course pre-dates the Common.

Fiction

Should this section not be deleted? We used to have "Popular culture" sections to which people added every literary, film, etc. allusion to a subject. These were mostly deleted a couple of years ago. Is this section not doing the same thing all over again? Peterkingiron (talk) 23:14, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
