Depth of sources

[edit]

It looks as if available sources for World UFO Day are newspapers and websites saying "so today is World UFO Day, here are some facts or a quiz about UFOs" - they don't say anything about the day beyond the fact that it's an awareness day that takes place on July 2, and that it commemorates the supposed Roswell crash. Per WP:INDEPTH, we really need to find sources that talk about the Day in detail if we're going to keep this article - we're not trying to confirm that it exists, we're trying to assemble secondary-source information about it, and "it's on July 2 and commemorates Roswell" isn't enough information for an article. --McGeddon (talk) 14:31, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two dates

[edit]

The claim that "The day is celebrated by some on June 24, and others on July 2." was changed to "In the past there were two days that were called World UFO day. July 2nd and the 24th of June. The WUFODO (World UFO Day Organization) declared July 2nd to be the official World UFO day. This was done to eliminate any confusion.", sourced only to the WUFODO website itself. The South American Ovni.net website - last updated in 2009 - does not have any message agreeing that it has abandoned its June 24 celebrations and that it recognises the WUFODO day as the "official" one.

Since both dates seem to be covered equally by press sources, they should be given the same weight in this article, even if one of those groups has decided to write a one-paragraph web page declaring itself to be the "official" day. We can't say that one date is more "official" than the other without a reliable source that's compared them, or a statement from both groups. --McGeddon (talk) 14:15, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
