Chilton Price Wrote Every Word and Every Note

[edit]

The article is almost right. Maybe that is good enough. Maybe not. What do you think? Chilton Price told Nick Clooney for an interview on the WSAI morning radio show Did they write any lyrics? "Not a word," said Chilton Price cheerfully. Did they write any of the music? "Not a note." Wasn't she upset by the two men claiming authorship of her song? "Not at all," responded Chilton. "I didn't know anything about the music business. If they hadn't pushed it, there probably would have been no record at all. I'm grateful to them." Nick then wrote Let it be said, at least this once, in print for all the world to see. Ms. Chilton Price of Louisville, Kentucky, wrote every word and every note of the quintessential 1950s love song "You Belong to me." No one else. https://web.archive.org/web/20050817174123/http://www.cincypost.com/2002/sep/27/cloon092702.html And it is not just that interview. There is a written copy of the original song, with identical words, but with the original title at time 1:37 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkpF2NUeq2U

Recorded Versions section

[edit]

Is there any real need for such a long list of who has covered this song? Kaitwospirit 19:58, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. It shows how notable the song is. -- BRG (talk) 14:44, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Elvis Costello recorded a song titled "You Belong to Me" but it is not a version of this song; rather, it is a new song with an identical title, and there is no evidence that Mr. Costello intended to draw comparisons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.62.4.198 (talk) 22:49, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hello - i think the list is incorrect. chaka khan recorded the carly simon- michael mcdonald song, not THIS song.

Paragraph #2 states Patti Page version (cover) entered the Billboard chart on August 22, 1952, and lasted 12 weeks on the chart, peaking at #4 paragraph #3 states that another cover version by Jo Stafford became the most popular version and first entered the US chart on August 1, 1952.

These two statements are confusing. How could the 3rd cover by Jo Stafford enter the charts 3 weeks before the 2nd cover by Patti Page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.249.47.181 (talk) 15:21, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Eddie Vedder sings a song with the title "Tonight You Belong To Me" on his "Ukulele Songs". Nothing to do with "You Belong To Me" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.173.157.10 (talk) 13:41, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gorgeous

[edit]

The writers to this song were very insightful. They found that passion for someone doesn't change no matter what setting. "Fly the ocean in a silver plane,

see the jungle when it's wet with rain.
Just remember when you're home again
You belong to me"

True love is undying and the fire will never burn out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorgeous dorkfly (talkcontribs) 20:34, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Info box

[edit]

Is this really the correct info box for this song? It appears to be for a song called "Tonight You Belong to Me" written in 1927, but then with some additional details pertaining to this song, like there being a Jo Stafford version. This song, as the body of the article makes plain, definitely is from the post World War II era. 2600:1004:B10B:B192:2502:5A8A:EBB3:54FB (talk) 03:54, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Patti Page's version

[edit]

"...[Patti Page's version] was released in March on the local Sharp Records label as her second single on August 5, 1952..." This doesn't make sense. Was it released in March or August? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.92.136.44 (talk) 12:23, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have worked out what the sentence means and I have fixed it. I also made a mistake in the above comment, because I was talking about Joni James' version, not Patti Page's. I would like to see sources for the dates (March and August 5, 1952). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.7.84.251 (talk) 22:49, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation

[edit]

Not sure how to do it, but this should have a disambiguation link for other similarly named songs, like the Carly Simon one, which has been covered by several other artists. 2603:8001:2A00:7428:6971:BFDB:6C52:B06C (talk) 22:03, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
