Different uniform[edit]

Improper Categorization[edit]

She's never referred to as an A.I. in the anime, manga, or graphic novels. But technically she is introduced as a "Humanoid Interface" which was created by the Integrated Data Entity to observe Haruhi. Now, since she was created and not "born" by biological means, she is an artificial being, and thus the term AI fits her just as well as alien, which takes care of the fact that she originated from somewhere other than Earth.--十八 03:10, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The context of A.I. changes in the Haruhi series. By our standards, aritificial intelligence spawns from humanity's ingenuity. Computers, robots, etc...are developed to simulate our own intellect and continue to grow from that point. However, the Integrated Data Entity is not connected with humanity in any such way. They're of an intellectual level that humanity cannot even begin to comprehend and as such are beyond the term of A.I. by definition. The humanoid interfaces aren't machines but a summation of data concentrated into a tangible form and enabled to interact with lower beings (aka humans). You could argue that they could be A.I. relative to the Entity, though they are individuals within the Entity and as such would not be considered A.I. even in that sense but part of the entirety. I'd have to agree that Yuki isn't A.I by any means and would thus be suited in just the classification of alien, which by definition means anything not of earth. In both the series and the novels, it's made quite clear that she is created by a "data entity" -- a civilization of memetic life forms. Kyon calls her an "alien", among other things, because in-character he isn't supposed to be able to comprehend the concept, but the audience (or at least, the audience the author intends) is supposed to catch on. I'd argue about the AI bit, but only in terms of the classical definition of AI. She is a physical form for a non-physical intelligence; her physical form is presumably biological, or at least made to seem that way (she eats, bleeds, etc.), however, her unusual abilities come from the fact that she has a link to the Data Integration Thought Entity, which is described as being pure information (in other words, a sentient memeplex). This doesn't make her an AI, but instead a 'waldo' for a natural intelligence that lacks a physical manefestation. This is further explained in the novels, specifically in Volume 8, in which she deals with a memetic lifeform that normally posesses silicon-based life forms but that, in losing the silicon substrate upon entry, posessed dogs instead. While Yuki may indeed be introverted, we have no actual evidence that is the case. While most people would define introversion as shyness or being reserved socially - and some dictionary definitions - the psychiatric definition is of someone who recharges their emotional state by retreating to solitude. Relation to Negima[edit]

Anyone else notice that she and the other two IDE androids (or whatever) have the same hair style as the memebers Library club in Negima?

Possibly though it's more likely coincidental. Their hairstyles are fairly ordinary at best. Unless any of the staff have been quoted or said that their character designs were influenced or inspired by a specific series/character, including that info is speculatory. Control Time[edit]

SOS Brigade Membership[edit]

One thing I noticed about the article, the first paragraph states that she "never officially joins" the SOS Brigade, but then in the third paragraph it is stated that she is the only member of the Brigade that willingly joined as opposed to being captured by Haruhi like the other members. Fixed, almost eight years later. I don't know where anyone got the idea that she "is the only member of Haruhi's SOS Brigade who willingly joined", when it's the complete reverse. Going through the article, I found (and removed) a lot of such claims which are so contrary to what actually happens in the series that they seem simply made-up.--Martin IIIa (talk) 17:01, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
