Transcription
[edit]I guess the transcription for the pronunciation of "zeuhl" should have been "tsoil" as it is sang by Magma vocalists. Refer to early Magma's albums, for instance: MDK, track 6: Mekanik Kommandoh, at 3:12.
On a bootleg I have from 1975, Christian Vander Pronounces "Zeuhl" like "Zohl." Rileydog22 03:59, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Should Zeuhl be a category? RJFJR (talk) 16:15, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
— Guys, the word «zeuhl» has never been pronounced as «tsoil». Kobaiian is not German, and it has its own pronounciation rules. To get proof, just listen to Magma's MDK, where words «da zeuhl wortz mekanik» are sung as «da dzyol' vorts mekanik». 83.242.225.2 (talk) 10:48, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- It is pronounced [tsoil] (broad transciption) in Theusz Hamtaahk, Third Movement: Mëkanïk Dëstruktïw Kömmandöh, track 4: Da Zeuhl wortz Mëkanïk (it rhymes with boil there), at 1:06 & track 6: Mëkanïk Kömmandöh, at 3:12. So, [tsɔɪl] is a close approximation from an English point of view. In French, it would be pronounced [zœl] (it would rhyme with seul), but Kobaïan is supposed to be based on German (and Hungarian) elements. --Omnipaedista (talk) 07:28, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- What? Lyrics of Da Zeuhl Ẁortz Mëkanïk don't even contain the world "Zeuhl". "Zeuhl" is pronounced kind of [dzʲulʲ] at 3:14 in "Hortz Fur Dëhn Štekëhn Ẁešt" and at 6:06 in "Mëkanïk Kömmandöh". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.104.214.174 (talk) 17:42, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
- Given the disagreement here, and the complete lack of any reliable sources, I've removed the pronunciation. I would love to see it sourced, though. -- irn (talk) 22:31, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Challenging the use of Rock in Opposition
[edit]Magma was founded and was creating Zeuhl music since 1969. The first Rock in Opposition festival (along with the birth of that movement) was held nine years later, in 1978. I find it hard for someone to be influenced by the future. Should this be removed?
Birchofacookie (talk) 22:59, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think it should rather be re-written. The article does not claim that Magma has been influenced by RiO. Later bands (and musicians), including the mentioned "recent avant-garde Japanese bands" have been categorized as Zeuhl (if they do so themselves or not), and I think it is fair to state that "aspects of rock in opposition" blend into their music. Since there is no Zeuhl headquarter that defines which bands' music is considered Zeuhl, Zeuhl is hard to define (unless you restrict it to Magma, which we don't), and Zeuhl is "work in progress", not some relic in some museum. Maybe that section should rather start like "Zeuhl typically blends progressive rock, symphonic rock, fusion, neoclassicism and has some aspects of rock in opposition"? - Reading this over, I think I may have found a way to make this make perfect sense. Birchofacookie (talk) 17:01, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Merge of list
[edit]The list had been PRODed for deletion but merge here seems sensible.
