Peer review via Wikiproject

[edit]

Why

[edit]

This template standardises WikiProject-associated peer reviews. Previously, around over an hundred Wikiprojects had their own separate peer review processes. This led to a number of problems, particularly with reviews that languished unattended for many years. Many WikiProjects did not even have any peer reviews requested at all. To help unify the way things were done, this template is used to direct editors to use the general Wikipedia peer review process.

Its goal is:

  • Help peer reviews be responded to in a more timely way, and exposed to more editors
  • Increase the sense of community and activity that contributors experience, by facilitating the display of peer reviews at a more central and active venue
  • Reduce the technical and maintenance burden for Wikiprojects
  • Link peer reviews to a more widely maintained process, keeping technical factors more up to date

It is still possible to include peer reviews on the Wikiproject pages - see example below. This template simply helps direct editors to how to create a peer review using the central process. This means a review might be listed both on a Wikiproject's peer review page, a page that people can be easily watched by Wikiproject participants, and also at the central peer review listing.

How

[edit]

Place template Template:Peer review via Wikiproject on the peer review page. There are ways to do this are:

For active projects, where the peer review page is inactive or mostly unused

Copy to the page: {{Peer review via Wikiproject|mode=redirect}}

WikiProject peer reviews
A Wikipedia Peer Review can be a useful way to improve articles associated with this WikiProject. To see active peer reviews on Wikipedia, click here. To learn how to request a peer review, click here. If your project has article alerts enabled, reviews will display on that list.

To change how your project's peer reviews are managed, see here.

For active projects, with instructions how to place to use the project's peer review page - suitable if there are likely active page watchers

Here there are two options at the moment, based on how old reviews are arranged.

The most simple option is to have links to old reviews included directly on the page. To do that copy to the page: {{Peer review via Wikiproject|mode=simple|oldreviews=here}}

WikiProject peer reviews
A Wikipedia Peer Review can be a useful way to improve articles associated with this WikiProject.

You can keep track of new reviews by watching this page; do that by clicking here. If your project has article alerts enabled, reviews will display on that list too.

To list your review below:

  1. Create the peer review following instructions here.
  2. Add [[Wikipedia:Peer review/Name of nominated article/archiveN]] - August 2024 at the top of the list of requests below (where N is the archive number).

When the review is finished:

  1. Follow the general instructions for peer reviews here.
  2. Move [[Wikipedia:Peer review/Name of nominated article/archiveN]] - MONTH - YEAR from the list of active reviews to the list of old reviews.

To change how your project's peer reviews are managed, see here.

The more complicated option, most suitable if there are lots of old reviews, is to put old reviews in a category. To do that, copy to the page: {{Peer review via Wikiproject|mode=simple|oldreviews=category|cat=OLD PEER REVIEW CATEGORY NAME HERE}}

For inactive projects

Copy to the page: {{Peer review via Wikiproject|mode=inactive}}

WikiProject peer reviews
This inactive or historical peer review page has had its instructions updated for posterity's sake. That's because there is now a Wikipedia Peer Review that peer reviews can be listed at, and the old instructions were out of date and may cause problems (or disappointment as not many people may see your review). If this page ever becomes active again, see here for a way to keep reviews up to date.
