Template talk:AreaR

It looks like I'm a little over my head here. The template is intended to specify an area record, as in, a continental record in sports. Because of surrounding island countries, each nation is assigned to an "area' rather than relying on the specific continental mass. For example, for political reasons, Israel is in Europe, while neighboring Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are in Asia. Indonesia, part of the Australian archipelago, is in Asia even though it shares part of the island of New Guinea, the other half of which competes in Oceana.

Records are kept based on these International Olympic Committee defined areas. Now how to make the template sort based on appropriate names, I'm not sure how to do that. Since some of the names are oblique, we might need a lookup table in the process, but I don't know how to make such a thing work.Trackinfo (talk) 20:35, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
