The current template points to : ccedb.cch.kcl.ac.uk but ccedb.cch.kcl.ac.uk is no longer an active URL. It seems the database is now hosted here: theclergydatabase.org.uk.

Can someone try to fix the template please. Wayne Jayes (talk) 08:37, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Turning this into a citation-based template

[edit]

I just found this template, and the CCEd, today. What a great resource! But the output currently produced by the template is slightly out of step with the styling of other citations an article might have. I propose changing this template so that it becomes a wrapper for Template:Cite web, that way citations will appear in the same format as other website links (at least, those that use that template). I think we might also draw some guidance from CCEd's own page on how they should be cited (though I wouldn't want to follow it too slavishly).

I've made a start in Template:CCEd/sandbox, what do you guys think? Pinging @DBD: as they wrote the original template, and @Waynejayes: as from the entry above he appears to be using it (or will be now it's working again). Chuntuk (talk) 22:33, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, great. Nice work. It would be great for it to match the standard. Thanks DBD 22:39, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your work, I'm glad it's working again and that you plan to get the citation style more uniform. Wayne Jayes (talk) 10:52, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys, I've sent my version live. It now produces a citation something like this: "Andrewes, Lancelot (1580–1609) (CCEd Person ID 21583)". The Clergy of the Church of England Database 1540–1835. Retrieved 16 February 2021. I personally find the IDs showing in the citation a bit ugly, but it's how CCEd ask you to cite their pages, and consistent with some other wiki templates like the Cambridge alumni one. I've made it so that the year parameters for a person are optional, I may do the same for some of the others at some point. Chuntuk (talk) 12:35, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
