this template essentially performs the same function as template:col-begin but also reduces the text size. it's code needs to be updated though to be similar to template:col-begin which would allow the use of the same variables in ths template. (note that template:col-begin has been pegged for being upgraded to use proper css in the future; see Template talk:Columns for more). --MilkMiruku 17:43, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

- I'm using it in Irish phonology#References to create two columns of references written in small type. It's usual for references to be written smaller than main text, and putting them in two columns prevents the lines of text from being too long, as well as saving vertical space. —Angr 18:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
