Interlingua interwiki

Dear administrator, please add the following interwiki:

ia:Patrono:Coor URL

Thank you in advance, Julian Mendez 02:09, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Done. The interwikis are on Template:Coor URL/doc, which isn't protected, incidentally. Kirill Lokshin 06:39, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Bad link

This link does not work, therefore:

Editprotected

Please elaborate -- where are you having a problem? At what page? Where on the page? What exactly is the nature of the problem? Luna Santin 00:24, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Span title

I would suggest that span titles (mouseover text) be added to either this template or Coor dm, whichever it would work to add it to. The idea came from a discussion on the help desk a while back about making the coord template more prominent and alluring to those who may not know about all the useful information it holds. I'm not exactly sure how to put it all together, I managed to get something that works (but is probably quite inefficient) by subst'ing both teplates and adding the text to use in the infobox on Mackinac Island.

The code I came up with is

<span class="plainlinksneverexpand"><span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about Mackinac Island"><span style="white-space:nowrap">45°51′40″N,</span> <span style="white-space:nowrap">84°37′50″W</span></span></span>

which gives 45°51′40″N, 84°37′50″W

The text to add would have to be a param, but I'm not exactly sure which template to add it in.

Click here for maps, aerial photos... looks much better to me than http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/geo/geohack.php?params=45_51_40_N_84_37_50_W_type:isle

Okay, I managed to figure out how to do this. This template will remain the same. The other coor templates will have to be edited.
Coor dms will have:
<span class="plainlinksneverexpand">[Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> <span style="white-space:nowrap">{}° {}′{}″{},</span> <span style="white-space:nowrap">{}° {}′{}″{}</span>]</span><noinclude>
Coor dm will have:
<span class="plainlinksneverexpand">[Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> {}° {}′{}, {}° {}′{}]</span><noinclude>
Coor will have:
<span class="plainlinksneverexpand">[Coor URL{} <span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME">{}]</span><noinclude>
Coor d will have:
<span class="plainlinksneverexpand">[Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> {}° {}, {}° {}]</span><noinclude>
Coor at d will have:
<span class="plainlinksneverexpand">[Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> {}° {}, {}° {}]</span><span id="coordinates" class="plainlinksneverexpand">Coordinates: [Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> {}° {} {}° {}]</span><noinclude>
Coor at dm will have:
<span class="plainlinksneverexpand">[Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> {}°{}′{} {}°{}′{}]</span><span id="coordinates" class="plainlinksneverexpand">Coordinates: [Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> {}°{}′{} {}°{}′{}]</span><noinclude>
Coor at dms will have:
<span class="plainlinksneverexpand">[Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> <span style="white-space:nowrap">{}°{}′{}″{},</span> <span style="white-space:nowrap">{}°{}′{}″{}</span>]</span><span id="coordinates" class="plainlinksneverexpand">Coordinates: [Coor URL{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}_{}<span title="Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME"> <span style="white-space:nowrap">{}°{}′{}″{},</span> <span style="white-space:nowrap">{}°{}′{}″{}</span>]</span><noinclude>
The coor title series will not have to be edited as they call the corresponding template from the coor series. The above is a modification of the existing templates, so these can be copy and pasted, replacing the existing text up to the protected template. I've tested these all in my userspace (at User:Mr.Z-man/template1 and User:Mr.Z-man/Sandbox) and they all work. Instead of giving the URL in the span title, they now give the following string:"Click here for maps, aerial photos, and other data about PAGENAME" and PAGENAME expands to the name of the article, so the changes will be made without adding any extra params or editing any other articles. Mr.Z-mantalk¢Review! 21:38, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I've made the changes, with minor modifications: (0) closing </span> fixes, (1) I didn't use "Click here" since that's redundant, and (2) I wrote "about (coordinate)" rather than "about {PAGENAME}", since at least the non-title versions could be used for coordinates other than the subject named by the page. The {coor at} templates don't seem to work; can't figure out why. Quarl (talk) 2007-03-08 09:30Z

Mr.Z-man pointed out my typo with the {Coor at} templates, now fixed! Quarl (talk) 2007-03-08 21:50Z
P.S. this was a huge pain to do multiple times and the templates are all out of sync with each other. Whose idea was it to un-refactor them from {coor} ? :) Quarl (talk) 2007-03-08 09:31Z

Hi, thanks for adding the tool tips. It's definitely an improvement. However it strikes me every time I see it that having the coordinates repeated in the tool-tip makes the tool-tip too complex and un-user-friendly. I think replacing them with simply "this location" would be an improvement in all cases. The tool-tip would be adding explanation / simplifying language as is its primary purpose. --GregU 19:16, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

"this location" should do. -- User:Docu
I added the updates needed for Template:Coor d, Template:Coor dm, Template:Coor dms to Template talk:Coor dms. -- User:Docu
Thanks Docu, this still bothers me. --GregU 14:54, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
