Template:Flag decoration is permanently protected from editing because it is a heavily used or highly visible template. Substantial changes should first be proposed and discussed here on this page. If the proposal is uncontroversial or has been discussed and is supported by consensus, editors may use {{edit template-protected}} to notify an administrator or template editor to make the requested edit. Usually, any contributor may edit the template's documentation to add usage notes or categories.

Any contributor may edit the template's sandbox. Functionality of the template can be checked using test cases.

This template was considered for merging with Template:Flag on 2014 December 10. The result of the discussion was "do not merge".

This template was considered for deletion on 30 October 2010. The result of the discussion was "no consensus".

Tracking redinks, and noredlink=yes

Per the discussion at Template talk:Flagicon#Noredlinks, I have amended the template (in these edits[1]) to allow:

the tracking of redlinks in Category:Flagdeco with missing country data templates (population: 0}
the suppression of redlinks, by using the parameter |noredlink=yes

I have documented this at Template:Flagdeco/doc (diff[2]).

I propose displaying country/region name in the tooltip by default. It will help visually impaired readers, as well as help readers recognize countries/regions with lesser-known flags. The variant value, if present, should be appended to the tooltip, e.g., "Bulgaria, 1946". — UnladenSwallow (talk) 15:22, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

On a second thought, maybe we should not enable this by default, but with a parameter tooltip=yes (in most use cases {{flagdeco|…}} is already followed by country/region name, so there's no need for the tooltip). — UnladenSwallow (talk) 16:01, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Minor improvement in the flagdeco/core sandbox

Here. I replaced:

with

{{{size|{{{size flag alias-{{{variant}}}|{{#if:{{{variant|}}}|23x15px|{{{size flag alias|23x15px}}}}}}}}}}}

This edit request to Template:Flagdeco has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request.
