Infobox Image

[edit]

@Gryffindor: You are making major change without discussion on this topic. You removed Infobox image of "History of India" and "Modern Indian history" template without discussion. I do not see other nations history template images being removed ex: Template:History_of_Iran, Template:History_of_Pakistan, Template:History_of_Korea, Template:History_of_Japan, Template:History_of_Egypt etc. You also seem to have moved pages, I can't acess "History of India" template talk page.

@Kautilya3: and @Fowler&fowler: can you also please address this issue? The image of Sanchi Torana was added last year as in infobox image for "History of India". I am restoring original images of both template for time being until we reach decision. 103.236.127.108 (talk) 16:45, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Gryffindor: please explain the reasons for your edit. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 18:22, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Almost all history templates normally use the emblem or arms of that country, see Template:History of the United States as example. Or use an image that is created for the template, as can be seen here Template:History of China. It has to be something that is representative for the whole country, not just one category. In the case of India this is particularly challenging due to its diversity. Use the official emblem of India as being representative, since it is laid out in the constitution and determined by the government, for the modern history template. And find something else that is better suited for the pre-modern history. Gryffindor (talk) 20:58, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Gryffindor:Emblem is appropriate for Modern History of India, as it was adopted as national emblem after Independence. While Sanchi Torana, (UNESCO heritage) oldest stone structure in India is appropriate for History of India template. Note that both (including Embelem) are derived from Mauryan period when Buddhism was dominant religion unlike today, I don't think any Indian would feel they don't represent our diversity, unless you're saying we have to change our emblem too because we're not Buddhist today. They are appropriate for their specific template. 61.3.100.135 (talk) 21:31, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
