Needs to support [z] between two vowels

[edit]

An ⟨s⟩ between two vowels is pronounced [z] in most dialects in most contexts (e.g. Giuseppe), but this template only supports [z] before a voiced consonant. The context rule for ⟨s⟩ to be pronounced [z] seems too complicated to implement automatically, so we would need an independent code, though I'm not sure what since z, zz, Z, and ZZ are already taken. Maybe VsV, though it's pretty clunky. — W.andrea (talk) 18:12, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Overriding the "Outputs that change according to inputs" for "gh"?

[edit]

How do you use this template to correctly display "Margherita" as [mar.geˈri.ta] and not [mar.d͡ʒeˈri.ta]? I.e. how can you override the "Outputs that change according to inputs" to make sure the Italian "gh" is correct?

Here is my input: {{IPAc-it|m|a|r|.|g|e|ˈ|r|i|.|t|a}}. Here is the output: [mar.d͡ʒeˈri.ta].

If this is an oversight, could "gh" be added to force a /g/ just as there is now a "ch" to force a /k/? Like this: {{IPAc-it|m|a|r|.|gh|e|ˈ|r|i|.|t|a}}? (Which currently displays this: [mar.ɡeˈri.ta].) AjaxSmack  19:02, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@AjaxSmack
I have added "gh" as requested. R.L (talkcontribs) 23:37, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that and for implementing it at Margherita Buy. The template still seems like a weird mix of IPA and Italian orthography, but as long as it works.  AjaxSmack  15:49, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, would it be easier to use if the idiosyncrasies listed at Template:H:IPAc-it were added here at Template:IPAc-it? I know that, ..."(the complete list is available at {{H:IPAc-it}}). All phones from IPA for Italian are available" appears here, but it's kind of small print and somewhat contradictory.  AjaxSmack  15:57, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
