Second parameter[edit]

I just added support for a second parameter. Feed it a second link and you'll get something like this:

{{other ships|Stuff|Things}} results in

If you don't supply a second parameter, it'll work just as before. This works well for international ship names; I made this modification so I could link to both USS Nautilus and Ships named Nautilus. TomTheHand (talk) 22:25, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

interwiki[edit]

{{editprotected}} Please add an interwiki link [[ja:Template:Otherships]]. --fryed-peach (talk) 16:13, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I also suggest writing up a documentation for the template so edits like this can be made without admin help in the future. Cheers. --lifebaka (talk - contribs) 17:00, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

{{editprotected}} To implement the {{template doc}} system (as suggested above) and the option for a third parameter for extremely unusual cases, please update this template from this version of the template sandbox. These changes are demonstrated on the the testcases page. — Bellhalla (talk) 21:37, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done, except that I couldn't see the purpose of the includeonly tags (only normally used for categorisation purposes) and I kept the pp-template. Hope this is okay. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:47, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes, of course, on the {{pp-template}}. (Silly me!) I prefer the <includeonly> tags on parameter based templates to avoid having strange or awkward formatting on the template page, but it's no big deal one way or the other. Thaanks for making the changes. — Bellhalla (talk) 23:24, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I guess the includeonly thing is a personal preference because I have noticed some other people doing it as well. Personally I like to see the default code, because it quickly shows me what the template does without having to read the documentation! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 05:22, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{Otherships2}} redirected to this template[edit]

In case there are any unexpected problems, I wanted to note that I have redirected Template:Otherships2 to Template:Otherships since the latter successfully handles two parameters as used in the former. (The template can actually handle up to three parameters properly.) In addition there was a slight wording difference between the two templates that is rectified by the redirection. — Bellhalla (talk) 19:31, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Add french[edit]

{{editprotected}} Hi ! Could you please add [[fr:Modèle:Autres navires]] to interlanguage links ? Thx ! Gonzolito (talk) 23:16, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

 Done & Thanks. Skier Dude (talk) 04:48, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More parameters[edit]

Requesting for more parameters to be added to this template, in order to work with articles such as SS Republic (1871) without needing to use this template twice. I've created a working copy of this, see User:Thine Antique Pen/ships, which I have tested in "show preview" of a number of articles. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 10:48, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. — xaosflux Talk 15:08, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Submarines are not ships[edit]

The template becomes inaccurate when used for a submarine name (eg HMS Anson) as a submarine is not a ship. Springnuts (talk) 05:28, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Neither are office buildings like HMS President. I don't have a suggestion for an accurate but concise template, though. Aoeuidhtns (talk) 23:02, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
