Usage

[edit]

These templates are used to format tropical cyclone names, typically listed at the end of each season article. Formatting cues are used to differentiate between used, active, and unused names.

  • {{tcname unused|<name>}}
  • {{tcname active|<name>}}

The only unnamed parameter is the name of the cyclone. You may also leave the name out to get a simple description of the formatting cues.

Examples

[edit]
Sample code Output
{{tcname unused|Camille}} Camille (unused)
{{tcname active|Katrina}} Katrina (active)
{{tcname unused}} gray
{{tcname active}} bold+

Discussion

[edit]

I created these templates because the older AHS season articles had unformatted name lists, and some of the newer ones had inconsistent formatting. I therefore went through all AHS articles and updated them to use the {{tcname unused}} template. The {{tcname active}} template is less important because generally only a small number of cyclones are active at once. — jdorje (talk) 20:13, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Accessibility

[edit]

The greyed-out text in this template fails WP:COLOUR and should be darkened, or some other indicator used, for the reasons explained there. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:54, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've darkened it to #666666, which has a contrast ratio of 5.7, which passes AA level. Jolly Ω Janner 20:46, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
