Thakot (Urdu: تھاکوٹ ) is a tribal town on the Indus River in Battagram District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is also one of twenty Union Councils of Battagram District, and one of twelve in Battagram Tehsil.[1] It is located at 34°45'0N 72°55'0E at an altitude of 1131 m (3713 ft),[2]

Demography

Most of the people living here belong to the Swati tribe.[citation needed]. Karlugh Turk families are also living in Thakot. The people of the Thakot speak Pashto, Urdu and educated elite also speak English. The population of Pakistan became predominantly Muslim due to missionary Sufi saints whose dargahs dot the landscape of country.

Hydro

The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is building 2,800 MW Hydel Power Project Thakot at an estimated cost of $5 billion. The Pakistan government has proposed Russian cooperation in the project.[3]
