The Anteroom is the upcoming fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter How to Dress Well. It is set to be released on October 19, 2018 on Domino.
Background
The Anteroom was written when Krell relocated to Los Angeles after the United States 2016 election, and was created as a 'testament' to a two-year period in his life where he "felt [himself] slipping out of the world and into a cosmic loneliness in which [he] would eventually be dissolved".[1] With the album, he sought to explore the experimental sounds of his early work, as well as influences from the works of Coil, Prurient, Gas and Grouper.[2] The record also features poetry contributions from Li-Young Lee and Ocean Vuong.[2]
The record was preceded by the release of an EP, Land of the Overflowing Urn, containing "Vacant Boat (shred) • Nonkilling 1 • The Anteroom • False Skull 1" and "The Anteroom" by itself. On September 11, 2018, "Nonkilling 6 • Hunger" was released as a single.
