The Island (Chinese: 一出好戏) is a 2018 Chinese comedy film written and directed by Huang Bo.[1] The film stars Huang Bo, Wang Baoqiang, Shu Qi, Zhang Yixing, and Yu Hewei.[2][3][4] It is the directorial debut film of Huang Bo.[5][6] The film premiered in China on August 10, 2018.

Production

Huang Bo stated that The Island is partly influenced by the 2009 American film 2012 directed by Roland Emmerich.[7] Huang spent over 3 years in total to write the screenplay.[7] It is Huang Bo's directorial debut.[8] Huang collaborated on the screenplay with no less than six writers: Zhang Ji, Guo Junli, Zha Muchun, Cui Siwei, Xing Aina, and Huang Zhanzhong.[9]

Copyright issue

On August 12, 2018, Yu Mengyuan (Chinese: 于梦媛) reported that Huang Bo copied her script Men's Crisis (Chinese: 男人危机) in real-name reporting.[10][11]

Release

The Island premiered in China on August 10, 2018. It grossed 150 million yuan on its first day.[12]
