The Kooks

The Kooks are an English rock band from Brighton. The Kooks' name originated from the David Bowie song "Kooks" from the album Hunky Dory. The Kooks' debut album, Inside In/Inside Out, spent more than half of 2006 in the UK Top 20 and has sold more than 1,000,000 copies in the UK. The group released Inside In/Inside Out and went on its first US tour in October 2006, selling out shows both in New York and Los Angeles.[1][2]

Members

The Kooks consists of Luke Pritchard, Max Rafferty, Hugh Harris and Paul Garred. The band formed at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music.

  • In the late/mid 1990s a Swedish band by the same name released a single in Sweden called "Too Much Of Nothing".[3]
  • The band refused to be interviewed on Channel 4's Popworld after, in the course of their first interview on the show, Simon Amstell made repeated references to Luke Pritchard's ex-girlfriend, Katie Melua.[4]
  • The song "Naïve", which catapulted them to stardom was written by Luke Pritchard when he was 16 years old.[citation needed]
  • Kooks is a song by David Bowie, which featured on his 1971 album Hunky Dory.
  • Hugh Harris and Luke Pritchard are rumored to support Brighton & Hove Albion.[citation needed]
  • Luke Pritchard announced in an interview on a French TV show that he went to school with singer Lily Allen. This was confirmed in a Bedalian newsletter stating that they both went there for a time[citation needed].
  • Luke Pritchard and Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell are infamously enemies, due to comments by both, most notably, Borrell referring to The Kooks as being "...bending down, with their ars*s in the air, waiting to be f**ked by radio 1" to which Luke retailliated "Yeah, he's a w****r" (This story was told by Borrell's friend, Noel Fielding on Never Mind The Buzzcocks 02.07.07)
