The Princess Switch is a 2018 American Christmas romantic comedy film directed by Mike Rohl from a screenplay by Robin Bernheim and Megan Metzger. The film stars Vanessa Hudgens and Sam Palladio.

It was released on November 16, 2018, by Netflix.

Plot

Stacy De Novo is a young baker who runs a pastry shop in Chicago with her close friend Kevin Richards. Kevin has a daughter named Olivia, born from his failed marriage to a woman named Karen.

A week before Christmas, Stacy discovers that Kevin had entered their business in the world's most prestigious pastry competition in the Kingdom of Belgravia. Stacy is reluctant at first; she has been very neurotic since her recent breakup with Paul, her boyfriend. She eventually agrees to compete after seeing Paul with his new girlfriend and a Kindly Man telling her that Christmas wishes can come true. Along with Kevin and Olivia, Stacy leaves for Belgravia. There the three go sightseeing and meet a Christmas stocking seller who looks very similar to the Kindly Man Stacy had met back in Chicago and who advises her to live life more lightly.

After arranging the luggage in their cottage, Stacy and Kevin arrive at the television studio where the competition will take place. Stacy immediately clashes with former winner Brianna, who will do everything to win, and starts by staining Stacy's apron. Stacy leaves to get a new apron and meets Lady Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenaro and future bride of Edward, the kingdom's Crown Prince. Margaret and Stacy note that they look perfectly identical and at the future princess's request, the two girls then exchange roles for a couple of days and agree to return to their lives just in time for the wedding and the competition.

As the days go by, Stacy adapts to court life and begins to fall in love with the formal Prince Edward, while Margaret falls in love with Kevin, a "commoner", and realises that she loves living a normal life. Olivia immediately finds out about the switch, but helps to keep Margaret and Stacy's secret.

The big day arrives and Queen Caroline discovers the truth about the switch from the butler, Frank, whom King George commanded earlier to spy on Stacy. The Queen then sends Margaret to attend the competition with Edward. Stacy and Kevin are thwarted by Brianna who, out of envy, tampers with the kitchen tools to sabotage Stacy but in the end, they win the first prize. The girls reveal everything and Margaret renounces the crown to be with Kevin while Stacy marries Prince Edward, living happily ever after.
