The third season of The Secret Life of the American Teenager, an American television series created by Brenda Hampton, debuted on the ABC Family television network on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 8:00 PM. After its second season's mid-season premiere was successful, ABC Family announced on January 12, 2010, that the show would be renewed for a third season, consisting of 26 episodes, the most episodes in a season to date. Season 3 will begin with 14 episodes broadcast before going on a hiatus until March 2011.

New characters and guest stars
On February 23, 2010, it was announced that Bristol Palin would be making an appearance on the show.[3] She would be playing herself at a music program for teen mothers on an episode to air on July 5, 2010.[4] On March 2, 2010, Bristol and Sarah Palin visited Los Angeles, where Bristol filmed her scenes for the episode that aired on July 5, 2010 on a closed set.[5]
On July 20, 2010, it was announced that Beverley Mitchell, best known for her role in 7th Heaven, will replace Mayim Bialik as the school counselor.[6]
Jared Kusnitz, best known for his role in the movie Prom, will be joining the cast as a reoccurring character named Toby. Toby is Ashley's "Study Buddy" from the Home-School group.
