Trysfjorden is a 6 km long fjord located northeast of the village of Ålo and west of Trysnes. The relatively deepest parts of the bay is at round 85 meters deep. In the mud at the bottom, scientists have discovered crustaceans that they believe are indigenous to the bay. Trysfjord has several islands and islets. In Røsstadkilen are Storholmen, Notholmen and Urholmen. Near the villages of Trysnes and Lastad is Lastadholmen which in recent years has had the largest colony of tern in Southern Norway.[2]
