USS Minnesota (SSN-783) is the 10th of a projected 30 Template:Sclass- submarines. It is the third United States Navy vessel named for the state of Minnesota, and the first to bear the name since 1921.[3]

Minnesota was laid down on 20 May 2011.[1][4] The Minnesota was christened on 27 October 2012 in a ceremony attended by many top ranking officials in the U.S. Navy and Congress.[3]

On 6 June 2013, Huntington Ingalls Industries announced that the USS Minnesota had been delivered to the Navy. The boat was delivered nearly 11 months ahead of schedule.[5]

The boat was placed in commission on September 7, 2013. As with other Virginia-class submarines, the Minnesota will operate with a crew of 134 officers and enlisted personnel.[3]
