[[]], the 101st Prime Minister of Japan, had come to Saikazaki port in the Kansai region to make a speech in support of Hirofumi Kado [ja], who was running for a seat in a 2023 Japanese Supplementary election [ja].

Kishida was scheduled to give a speech in front of the people, including a sashimi tasting. However, a man threw a pipe bomb into the crowd. Kishida immediately evacuated, and the man who threw the pipe bomb was immediately taken into custody. After Kishida finished evacuating, the pipe bomb he threw exploded with white smoke. Kishida was not injured because he had evacuated, but one police officer was slightly injured.
