Wacca (ワッカ in Japanese, stylized in all caps) is an arcade rhythm game developed and distributed by Marvelous Inc. in collaboration with Japanese music record HARDCORE TANO*C. Originally released in Japan, the cabinet features a 360-degree touch panel which surrounds a circular display.[1]

[edit]After playing a song, leveling up, or clearing stages, players earn WP (WACCA points)
Online and local play
[edit]WACCA supports online and local play with nearby arcade cabinets. Players can tap an Aime, Banapassport, or any IC Amusement compatible cards on the machine's card reader to access online services such as online leaderboards and unlock extra content like game levels. From the game's official website, players can manage user statistics, add or remove friends, and change settings.

[edit]Development
[edit]Around 2016, Marvelous Development Producer Tatsuya Yokoyama had made a proposal to HARDCORE TANO*C, who he'd been a fan of for a long time, to make a rhythm game together.[2] During an interview with ASCII Media Works, he noted "at the time we launched our project [WACCA], our division was only creating products for kids, which had been our specialty until then." However, Yokoyama said "I personally liked rhythm games, so I thought that if I did it with HARDCORE TANO*C, I would definitely have fun."[3] Shingo Dote, Deputy General Manager of the Amusement Division and General Manager of the Mechatronics Development Department said there were many problems creating the curved touch panel, stating trouble finding a supplier and great "trial and error" creating a prototype suitable for the target age range.[4]
At Shibuya DAIA in October 2018, the machine was shown to the public. Yokoyama explained the design of WACCA "was made so that anyone could understand the controls at a glance". Following gameplay presentations and live music performances, it was also announced that the public would be able to play on WACCA machines before the release date of July 18, 2019. From October 29 to November 4, Marvelous held multiple location tests for WACCA in numerous locations nationwide in Japan.[5]
Western introduction
[edit]Although an English localization for WACCA is not available, many of the game cabinets have been imported to multiple countries. On May 14, 2019, Round One Corporation announced original WACCA cabinets alongside multiple other popular rhythm games, such as Konami's Dance Dance Revolution A20 Gold cabinets, would be coming to Round1 arcades across the US.[6][7] Around late August 2019, WACCA cabinets began appearing in Round1 locations, the first sighting attributed to the location at Puente Hills Mall in Industry, California.[8]
Music and collaborations
[edit]As more versions released, the song selection expanded and included more genres ranging from J-pop to Vocaloid.[9] To expand song selection, collabs with other rhythm games like D4DJ Groovy Mix, Azur Lane

When the game was first released, the first original soundtrack CD was distributed to select IC Amusement card users between July 18 to August 18;[10] a standard practice for the release of each successive version of WACCA.
