Issue 8 (8/6/21): The WikiProject Video games newsletter's Q2 2021 issue isn't finished and not released
What a nuisance this situation is! The WikiProject Video games newsletter's Q2 2021 issue isn't finished and not released. The page that was supposed to represent the issue said that it would be completed and released on July 6, 2021, but however that deadline was missed, leaving the newsletter in an abandoned state. I am urgent to write this article because I noticed the lateness of this scenario, and it's a dire one, very dire. Since Q1 2021, I have not participated in the making the WP:VG/NEWS because of my will to be a freelancer, so I prefer not to go back to the draft department.
The VG newsletter already had problems with missing deadlines. It's index page includes a listing of 13 volumes worth of more than 50 issues, but two have been missing out on publication time. Q4 2017 is only accessible in a draft form, whereas all issues from Q1 2018 to Q1 2019 are not. All of them are not "officially published", and it remains in a inactive state until Q2 2019, where production sped up back to normal working frequency. This was the beginning of a period that included my involvement with WP:VG/NEWS: I wasn't intending to be involved in the newsletter, I was merely doing minor contributions to it, then some editors pressured me to be part of the issue-drafting workgroup, so I ended up working there for almost a year. I quit it because I didn't desire it in the first place. I did make contribs to this recent unpublished issue, but still nothing happened. So now I regret working for the newsletter, because it was contrary to my expectations.
Editors in the Newsletter talk page had big plans for Q2 2021. They had three choices for the theme of a "survey" feature: the first one was about video game series article organization, the second was for considering what are requirements for making video game series articles and franchise articles, and the third and last said "What would you consider among WPVG's best works and why? This is to give reference of what an article should look like for new editors."; I would do an article instead of a survey because there's more freedom in me in telling information to readers wisely like my words describe something instead of make editors reveal opinions about stuff. They were also going to interview Rhain, and their discussion had an incomplete list of questions detailing his inner workings and opinions, and it also had this:
"Recently, we've been asking the question "What is the weirdest thing you've done on Wikipedia?" and most have responded with something embarrassing instead. Have you done something embarr assing in your past that you'd be willing to admit?"
"What is the weirdest thing you've done on Wikipedia?" is a poor question I invented. I didn't make it clear what "weirdest" meant to them. Every time I asked the subjects that, they had no idea how to answer it other than make me define the question easier for them. It's a bad question, I admit: it's a result of the pressure.
Finally, they were gonna add another feature (non-survey) to the draft, but the two users in this discussion thread, Panini and Thibbs, eventually abandoned progress on the issue, putting the newsletter into a lazy stalemate.
In spite of me saying this, I did enjoy my time editing the newsletter; it gave me insight into what should I do with my newsletter, and how I would write my articles. Even then, I prefer editing my newsletter over editing theirs, because it's easier to manage my own resources than get involved in theirs.
Still, I am embarrassed that the Q2 2021 issue didn't get released. It's a sign of lessening interest over time. If the newsletter does get back up its feet, then fine that it's back up and running, but I would still never come back to editing the VG newsletter again anyways. All I'm doing intentionally is making the Bunbunmaru newsletter.
