United Grocery Outlet (UGO) is a chain of discount supermarkets, based in Athens, Tennessee, with locations in Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama and Georgia.[1][2]
Owned by Bargain Barn Inc., other names UGO operates under are Go Grocery Outlet and Grocery Outlet.
Company history
[edit]In 1974 high schooler Michael Tullock decided he wanted his own business, so in the back of his parents' antique store he started The Bargain Barn in Etowah, Tennessee. Bargain Barn Inc. now operates stores under the names United Grocery Outlet, Go Grocery Outlet and Grocery Outlet.
Recently UGO bought North Carolina based Go Grocery Outlet.[3]
