Medina of Marrakech is an old medina in the old town of Marrakesh, Morocco. It has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1985. [1]

History[edit]

The Medina of Marrakesh was a the center of Marrakesh when it was founded between 1070 and 1072 by the Almoravids, It remained a political, economic and cultural center for a long period and has influenced the western Muslim world, from North Africa to Andalusia. [1]

Monuments[edit]

The Medina has several impressive monuments dating from the Almoravids period. These include monuments such as Koutoubia mosque, walls and gates, gardens, old palaces, Ben Youssef Madrasa, Saadians tombs, and Jemaa el-Fna, the Kasbah, [1]

The medina also includes the traditional market or Souk of Marrakesh.
