This article is about the former Principal of Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy. .
Dr. K.Abdullah Basha better known as Basha Sir (03 October 1942 – 12 Jan 2017) was the 5th Principal of Jamal Mohamed College and Founder Director of Jamal Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, is a senior professor and principal with more than forty five years of experience in teaching and research; specialized in Managerial Economics, Macro Economics, International trade and Labor Problems. He was awarded "Vikas Ratan Gold Award” in 2002 by International Integration and Growth Society New Delhi for maintaining excellent academic standards. He is 70(seventy) by 03-10-2014. A popular speaker with find sense of humor in Tamil, English and Urdu and can read Hindi & Arabic. He was rendering social services as adviser and consultant to the institutions (Schools and Colleges) in this part of the country. He has organized many National and International Seminars and Conferences and traveled to foreign countries to deliver lectures, such as Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain etc.
He also has vast experience in the field of higher education, associating himself with a number of University bodies and he is one of the recognized and active member of

Early life and education
[edit]Abdullah Basha was born on 03rd October 1942 to a Tamil Muslim family in Nariyambattu, Vellore District of Tamil Nadu. His father Mohamed Gouse Shaib was a honest business man and his mother Salma Bee was a housewife. His father owned a business in Trichy and across TamilNadu. Abdullah Basha was the 2nd of five brothers and two sister in his family. After the demise of his father, the business were lost over the time; Abdullah Basha stood steady on towards the learning path and joined the college at Tiruchippalli. In his school years, Abdullah Basha had average grades but was described as a bright and hardworking student who had a strong desire to learn. He spent hours on his studies, especially economics. After completing his education at the Jamia Islamia Higher Secondary School, Ambur, Abdullah Basha went on to attend Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchirappalli, then affiliated with the University of Bharathidasan, from where he graduated his Master Degree in Economics in 1967.
Career as a Professor, HOD, Director, Principal and Coordinator
[edit]Credit for the prominence and prestige that Jamal Mohamed allege enjoys today goes inveitably to the Master Administrator who as the principal between 1998-2003 brought far reaching progressive changes and development
- The doors of the College were thrown open to the Girl Students during 1999-2000 and at present 6000 girl studends are pursuing higher education in the UG and PG classes
- The College has been accredited with a ‘Five Star Status’ by National Accreditation and Assessment Council in the year 2000 for maintaining quality and excellence in higher education
- Served as Director of MBA in JJ college of Engineering and Technology, Trichy and also as Director Advisor of MBA and MCA courses
- With great ethusiasm, he has taken the college to its Golden Jubilee and almost all departments in the college were upgraded into research departments
- A number of goodwill missions have been undertaken by visiting foreign countries like Middle East. UAR, Kuwait, Bahrain. Malaysia and Singapore recently to strengthen the relationship between the institution and other countries
- Delivered lectures on "National integration and Communal harmony" both in India and Middle Eastern countries

- A Separate Girl's Section was opened in 1999 with the introduction of career -oriented courses like Computer Science, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Business Administration, Commerce and English,Literature 'at the (U.G) and Commerce and Information Science at the (PG) levels. With a strength of around 1000 girls at present the college has taken a step forward thus providing good quality education leading to women's empowerment
- A number of Research Programmes leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. have been introduced in all the departments like Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Economics, English, Tamil and Commerce thereby promoting a research culture in the College

- In view of the excellent services rendered in the College in various academic and administrative spheres, the Management of the College gave an extension of service, with sancation of the Govt of Tamil Nadu to serve as Principal of the college beyond 58 ( the age of retirement) for a period of two years. The extension of service is approved by the Tamil Nadu Govt. in very rare cases

- A Popular speaker with a fine sense of humour in Tamil, English and Urdu

Death
[edit]During 4th to 6th January 2017, Abdullah Basha traveled to Cochin and Munnar for a tour along with his elder sons father-in-law Jafarullah Sahib. Later after his back from the tour, he was perfectly fine and led normal life, within next 2 days, on 11th early hours he experienced pain on his back, legs and stomach. He fainted and become unconscious, he was rushed to KMC Hospital, Tiruchirappalli. He fight back and recovered to consciousness after few hours. The entire day he was fine and met all his 3 sons and relatives who visited to the KMC Hospital. The next day 12th January 2017, he was normal at around 8.00 AM and spoke to younger son asusual. Around 9.30 AM, he again got fainted and become unconscious, shifted to ICU were he was fighting for his life. Later by 11.30 doctors declared dead. The cause was the distal abdominal aortic aneurysm enlargement was grown giant and unexpected rupture caused the sudden death.
On 13th Jan 2017, the former Principal was laid to rest at Kajamalai, Trichy with full honours. Over 30,000 people attended the last rites, including the social leaders, principal, professors and students across Tamil Nadu

[edit]Abdullah Basha was the 2nd Son of five siblings and two sister.
Religious and spiritual views
[edit]Religion and spirituality were very important to Basha throughout his life.
Islam
[edit]A proud and practising Muslim, daily namāz and fasting during Ramadan were integral to Basha Sir's life. His father, in his hometown of Nariyumbattu, had strictly instilled the Islamic customs in his children. His father had also impressed upon the young Basha the value of interfaith respect and dialogue.
