Latens is a company that designs and supplies software conditional access systems and middleware for digital television. Latens is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland with sales and support offices in the USA and India. Latens provides software conditional access and middleware products for Pay TV, supporting Cable, Satellite, IPTV and Terrestrial.

Latens was founded in 2002 by Jeremy Thorp, previously Group Managing Director at ntl, and Jason Rogers, previously Head of Architecture at Tandberg Television. Since then Latens has grown and in 2009 opened a new R&D facility in India

Latens Conditional Access technology is an innovative software only solution that encrypts content and removes the need for costly Pay TV smart cards. Latens conditional access solutions provide the essential functions needed for revenue and content protection together with the business and operational support for deploying multi-channel and on-demand applications such as IPTV, Cable, Satellite and VOD.

Latens customers include Altibox in Norway, Multimedia Polska in Poland, Digicable in India, and du in UAE

Latens software only conditional access is fully Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) and DVB Simulcrypt compliant. The benefits of Latens software conditional access include it eliminates the possibility of card sharing and helps prevent pirating of Pay TV.
