Trial of Slobodan Praljak[edit]

The trial of Slobodan Praljak took place in 2017 at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague. The trial took place in relation to his allegince to the Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia. Praljak voluntarily surrendered and was transfered to the ICTY. In his indicement it was alleged that Praljak was a senior officer and general of the Croatian Defence Council. Therefore he was convicted for war crimes in 8 Bosnian municipalties where Bosniaks were a majority. Slobodan Praljak pleaded not guilty and chose to defend himself without a lawyer. He was also acused of destroying the Stari Most, in Mostar. He recieved 20 years in prison. After an unsucssesful appeal on 29 November 2017 he drank poison in the court. After being rushed to the hospital, he would be proclaimed dead.
