The Department of Physics of University of Tehran is the first official center of physics education in Iran, which was established in 1934, simultaneously with the establishment of University of Tehran, under the supervision of the College of Science of University of Tehran in the central campus of the university by Professor Mahmoud Hessabi. This department has trained the first generation of Iranian physicists and many of the greats in this field, who have expanded physics in other universities of the country. Currently, the office of the Physical Society of Iran is located in this department.
